Chapter 6 Pt 1
It was an age old battle between light and darkness and it seemed this time round light was losing. How could it match the darkness that consumed the entirety of the room when the darkness itself was an extension of an outside source?
Slade watched as the flashing lights from the outside world were forcing themselves into the room. They came in long rays that extended into the room like spindly fingers crawling along the walls in mismatched slithering movements. He watched fully attentive as it came into contact with the wall of darkness that moved, back and forth as if it were a living thing.
He could feel his heart rate pick up slightly when that wall of darkness shot out a pitch black hand that slammed the light leaving behind nothing but ash colored smoke dancing along the wall. He smiled.
An almost inaudible groan came from his right. Slade froze.
Shit is she gonna wake up? He couldn't help but clench his jaw. Zed was not by any means a morning person whatsoever. Rigidly he turned his head to face the outline of the girl not six feet away from where he lay on his futon. She was backing him; wrapped up in a blanket and curled into a ball...she was very much still asleep on her bed, phew.
He turned his gaze back on the ceiling, a smile pulling at the side of his mouth. The sudden urge to laugh was tickling away at him. "Fetus Zed," was what his mind was chanting and he really couldn't help but think if she was sucking her thumb like she did when they were children. That would be hilarious, I'd never let her live this down. I gotta get a pic, I just gotta. Slade chuckled about ready to move over to her bed side when he was slammed into his futon by the same darkness he was not only seconds ago controlling.
He coughed, inhaling the breath that was knocked out of his lungs.
What the hell?
"Don't you dare think about coming over here..." Zed very groggily spoke up before falling back into the ever present darkness that was her sleep.
Slade blinked away the chilling feeling that slithered up his spine at the feel of his own shadow tackling him to the ground. "Damn," he muttered under his breath.
Slade hated when she did that, hated that she could use his own power against himself but he also didn't mind. It was a strange cycle of confusion that came with a warm and fuzzy feeling whenever she did it...then again that could just be the effects of having someone that isn't yourself tapping into your energy and using it as their own.
Whatever the case he knew that it was in fact something very rare and only occurred between wielders that had a bond so deep they would die for each other. It didn't matter that he couldn't do the same with Zed that was only because she had problems of her own with her so called abilities or lack of it as some would say.
Slade finally managed to wrestle his shadow off of himself which meant Zed was probably sleeping. A deep sigh passed his lips as he got to his feet; dust off the remnants of pizza crusts he had refused to eat last night all the while kicking his futon to the side to get out of the closet of a bedroom he and Zed shared.
When he was in the living room he stretched and made his way to the kitchen to get himself something to drink. Except for a bottle of water and a few cans of beer that he bought yesterday there wasn't much else in the fridge unless you considered a week old box of left over Chinese food edible then yes, there was more.
Light had only just started to stream into the room making Slade groan in annoyance as he chugged down the beer. The blinds did nothing to keep the lights out and it wasn't like they had any money to buy new ones in the first place which Slade thought was extremely sad.
