The day before Molly was leaving town she had went to the post office to send the letter to Emile. She felt great to finally get it off her chest but little did she know Croque wanted revenge on her. He wanted revenge on her since the last fight they had because he thought he was right and Molly should pay for her insolence. So after Molly left Main Street, Croque went into the Post Office. He made Pelly check if he got more mail (which he didn't) just to buy him time. So once he found Molly's goodbye letter to Emile he ripped off her heartfelt confection so Emile would never know. After Pelly told him he had no mail he ran straight home and put the ripped part of the letter in his secret storage compartment (from The Valentine's Day Present that is where you can understand more about the storage space).
