Chapter 29: ❝Let's seal the deal with a kiss❞
♡Mark's POV♡
I dragged my feet out of the exam hall, well aware of the dark bags gathered underneath my lifeless eyes. A long, insipid moan travelled out of my mouth when I stood still in front of the wooden doors that I had previously walked through with a positive mindset but my eyes had now been open to reality and not of that high-flown outcome I had envisioned.
The painful feeling of a hand slapping my back brought me out of my depressing thoughts.
"Hey man, how did the exam go?"
I slowly turned around to look at Luke and when my face finally appeared to him, I watched his smile falter as a shiver visibly shook him.
"Sheesh, what happened to you?" He questioned, not waiting for a response as he said, "you look like you just went to hell and back."
I sighed and walked away from him, arrogantly aware that he was going to follow me. "That's because I did just go to hell and back."
I had stayed up late last night studying for those wretched exams, prohibiting me from acquiring more than three hours sleep.
The sound of an ugly laugh sounded behind me. "Wait, are you telling me that you actually... studied?"
I said nothing and simply nodded my head with the remaining strength I had left.
For some reason, Luke found the situation funnier than it should've been and clutched his stomach as he bent over, forcing everyone in the area to suffer the unnecessary rounds of boisterous laughter.
"Hey, guys."
My glaring eyes softened at the voice and I whipped my head away from Luke in order for my gaze to adjust to a cheerful, reinvigorating facial expression.
"Hey," I responded, straightening my back. "How did the test go?"
She shrugged, a small grin grazing her lips and it was then that I realized I had just asked a stupid question.
Groaning, I facepalmed myself, which in turn got rid of some of my tiredness. "Of course, it went well for you. What else could possibly be expected?"
She laughed, waving me off with her hand as a humble gesture for being blessed with amazingly responsive brain cells.
Well, at least something of the sort anyway.
"Hey, guys."
We all turned to the sound of the voice just as Luke's laughter dissipated.
It was Cameron, Adam and Dillon and unsurprisingly, it was the former who had spoken. His smile was wide, making up for the other two who looked like they had just had the life sucked out of them and I could evidently relate.
"Wow, I can tell that only three of us survived the torture chamber," Cameron spoke, referring to Luke, Evelyn and himself.
"Yeah, well not everybody is blessed with-"
"-delicately crafted brains akin to that of Einstein?"
All of our stares focused on Adam while simultaneously throwing him weird looks that he embraced, brazenly shutting down our judgemental gazes.
"Yeah, sure," Dillon replied, uncaringly accepting the interruption after a minute of awkward silence.
Deciding to change the subject, Cameron averted his stare to Evelyn and opened his mouth to ask, "so, Evelyn, are you coming to our game tonight?"
