Chapter 15: She was crying, Sherlock

♡Mark's POV♡

Damn, can't couples these days just get a room?

Walking out of my Biology class, I was slightly surprised to see a couple hugging in the middle of the hallway without a care in the world, probably because they were more focused on themselves than on anything else. That was what happened when you fell in love. You became weak and vulnerable to your significant other, giving them the power to absolutely ruin you.

I rolled my eyes at the two human beings and made a move to walk past them but the light that discreetly shone on the clear lens of thickly framed glasses subsequently made me halt in my tracks in order to get a better look.

She pulled away when the hallway had become dead silent, a sign that all the students had gone to the cafeteria for lunch. It also made me question how long I had been standing there watching the whole scene in that embarrassingly paralysed state of bewilderment.

The first thing her eyes landed on was me and the next thing mine landed on was the prominent red mark on her cheek. I cringed at the sight but decided not to comment on it right away as I turned my attention to the tall male in front of me who's hood covered majority of his face, enabling me to see only the beginning of his crooked nose.

I gave him a once over to get an idea of the kind of person he was based on his attire and it was an oversized navy hoodie, black, charcoal skinny jeans and spotless white sneakers - one of the laces having been undone.

Just an average human being, I thought to myself.

"Who are you?" I asked the male, pointlessly taking a minor step towards him while crossing my arms tightly over my chest.

My voice came out much harsher than intended but I frivolously decided to ignore that, eager to hear the male's response and upon hearing me speak, he stopped staring at the girl in front of him to look at me with uninterested hazel eyes.

"Who are you?" He repeated, turning his full body in my direction.

He was actually surprisingly thin from what I thought he had looked like based solely on his side profile. His height balanced everything out though and like Evelyn, he also had a bruise on his cheek, only it was kind of faded and much smaller. His face was quite narrow but the sharpness of his jawline made up for it and the slight crookedness of his nose suited him well, which was something that couldn't be said about a lot of people.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "I asked you first."

His face remained stoic as he unexpectedly said, "I'm not going to introduce myself to someone I know nothing about but since you seem so interested to learn about me, I think it's only fair for you to introduce yourself first." He paused for a second to stare at me almost condescendingly with a lifted eyebrow before uttering, "don't you agree?"

I scoffed in disbelief at his attitude but didn't retaliate with the same amount of force, deciding to use water to distinguish the flame. Jutting my chin at Evelyn who stood there silently, I couldn't help but feel my chest swell with pride when I witnessed her staring at me - not him who had stared at her so ardently before.

"I'm her boyfriend."

I ignored how Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise, though I didn't blame her. It was weird voicing out those words myself even though they were partially true.

The auburn-haired male yawned exaggeratedly. "That's irrelevant to me."

I hummed, scrutinizing him carefully. "I'm sure it is."
