"Grace? Why are you in here? I thought that you were already late?" Alice asked looking up in surprise as I walked in carrying Cassidy.

"Grace!! Where are you!!? Get back in here now!!" Mom shouted from the living room causing me to groan.

"That's why. Jason just told Mom that he was Cassidy's father. Mom's all snooty. So I did what I always have done. I came to my best friend." I said thoughtfully.

"Grace. I want you and Cassidy to move in here. You remember we always planned it that way." Alice said making eye contact with me. I looked away and she pulled me into a hug.

"Alice. We need to talk. But not in front of her." I whispered into her neck and she pulled back.

Alice took Cassidy from me and placed her on the bed. "Cassidy have you ever jumped on the bed?" Alice asked her.

"No. It is not safe. You know the story about the ten monkeys?" Cassidy asked and I laughed.

"Well if you stay in the center of the bed you will be okay."  Alice said placing Cassidy in the center of the bed. "What is it, Grace?" Alice asked.

"They stopped my chemo treatments. They estimate that I have two weeks to live. But that's because I don't have a lung donor. Mom has offered hers." I said watching Cassidy.

"Oh my god. I'm so sorry. Is she serious?" Alice asked pulling me into a hug.

"Believe it or not she really is. She divorced my father just to come to see me." I replied.

"She must be serious. I think that she will overlook the fact that Jason is Cassidy's father." Alice said.

"I already have." Mom said from behind me. "You think that because of a stupid mistake that you made in high school that I won't give you a lung to save your life?" Mom asked.

"Mom. It wasn't a mistake. It was the best thing that ever happened to me." I said as Jason walked in.

"Jason. Tell Grace that your little fling in high school was a mistake." Mom demanded.

"I can't. It wasn't a mistake. We were- I mean- are in love. We didn't make any mistakes. You did. You left her at the hospital and you never once got in contact with her. But now it is almost to late. She has two weeks to live!" Jason shouted angrily.

"How do you know about that!? Grace did you tell him!?" Mom shouted and lunged for me. She knocked me to the ground causing my head to bang into the floor and everything went black.

Jason's POV

I stared in shock as Grace was attacked by her own mother. But then she didn't fight back I yanked her mother off of her. "Grace! Come on! Wake up!" I said gently.

"Jason! Calm down! You are scaring Cassidy!" My sister said hugging Cass close.

"Okay. I'll calm down. Grace please wake-" I said getting cut off by Grace's phone ringing. I grabbed it and answered. "Hello?" I asked.

"Put Grace on the phone. Tell her it's Dr. O'mally." Said a male voice.

"I'm sorry Dr. O'mally but Grace can't come to the phone right now. May I take a message?" I asked.

"Sure. Please tell her not to hit her head against anything." Dr. O'mally said.

"What happens if she does?" I asked honestly needing to know.

"It may speed up the progression. She might fall into a coma. Is this clear?" O'mally asked.

"It's to late. She hit her head just before you called. I'm getting her to the hospital now. Bye." I said hanging up not waiting for a reply. "Grace if you are going to wake up do it now. Give me a sign anything." I said placing my hand on her forehead. Grace didn't move.

"Alice. Bring Cassidy. We have to hurry. And I mean hurry. If she goes into a come she may not resurface. Ever." I said picking her up and running to my car then speeding off barely waiting for Alice to get in the car with Cassidy.

We pulled up at the hospital and rushed in. "What's her blood type?" The nurse asked placing her on a stretcher.

"AB negative. She's not allergic to any type of medicine. Her doctor said that she may be going into a coma. She has cancer." I explained and the nurse stared at me.

"Forget it. Take her to the ICU!" She yelled.

"What?" I asked changing direction with them.

"I can fix what's wrong with her. What's your name? And where is the cancer?" She asked.

"I'm Jason. And her lung." I answered worriedly.

"Darn. We don't have anyone who can give her a lung." She said.

"Yes you do. I promised her a lung. And I'm going to give it to her." Grace's mother said from behind me. I was looking at Grace. Then her eyes opened and barely focused on me but they did.

"Grace you are going to be okay. True me." I said she gave me a light nod. "I'll take care of Cassidy." I promised causing her to smile and then slip back into the darkness.
