Bellamy couldn't let go of Clarke. For hours now, several people had tried to take him away. Not out of anger or malice, out of care for him, but he couldn't let go.
At the scene, he had been held back by two officers. He had screamed her name, his voice raw. He had begged the paramedics and the officers to tell him that she was even still alive. To ride with her. But, they had ignored his pleas. The paramedics wouldn't allow anyone in the back with Clarke when they took her, not even Abby.
Without speaking to each other, Abby and Bellamy had been soaked by the rain, and then driven together to the hospital. Together they had paced and waited for hours and hours on updates on Clarke. Still, they had barely spoken.
"Bellamy? Sweetie, you need to eat. Okay? You can't stop eating, she needs you strong for her." Bellamy turned to see his mother's soft, pleading eyes. The dark circles underneath the brown eyes were very clear indicators that she hadn't slept either. "And you need a shower. When is the last time you even went to the restroom? It's been two days, Bellamy."
He was pretty sure he had peed at the courthouse. Two days wasn't that bad. But, she was right. He did need a shower. And he needed to take the ruined tux off. But, Clarke's hand was so pale in his. It would be cold the moment he let go, and she didn't need to be cold.
"You can use the shower here," Abby told him. "Shower right here, that way you will be three steps away if she wakes up. Okay?"
"When she wakes up," he corrected. "Okay. I'll be quick." Bellamy stood, still holding her pale hand, but Aurora took it from him. She cupped Clarke's hand in hers. He leaned down and kissed Clarke's forhead once more. "I love you, Clarke. I'll be right back," he promised.
In the bathroom, he started the shower, opening the bag his mother had brought. Travel soaps and toothbrushes. He quickly used the bathroom and then stepped into the hot water. The water was turning his skin red as he scrubbed himself, but he didn't notice the heat. Instead, he rushed.
After quickly towel drying, he pulled on the clean clothes from his mother and slid into his socks and sandals. Clarke hated when he wore socks and sandals, but she always smiled when she saw him do it. She loved to tease him.
He put the bag into the small closet area of Clarke's room and thanked his mother.
"Now, I'm going to the cafeteria," his mother smiled, giving him Clarke's hand back. "What do the two of you want?"
"I think I'll come with you," Abby sniffled. "I need to make some arrangements to miss work and have someone pick me up some clothes."
"Okay, wonderful," Aurora smiled. "Bellamy, what do you want me to bring you? They have a pretty big selection."
"A sandwich is fine," he told her. "Thank you." She hugged him, tightly. And then she led Abby by the arm out into the hallway.
"I'm so sorry, Clarke." Bellamy's chest was tight, painful. He reached up to push her hair from her bruised face. "Why the hell didn't I just come pick you up?" He sighed. "I know why. I know we both wanted the dress to he a surprise," he sniffled. Looking onto the table beside her bed, his lungs felt even tighter. The tiara he had bought her to wear was sparking, glittering in the fluorescent lights. "Well, sadly the only time I saw you in it," he breathed, his tears falling. "You were bloody, and on a stretcher."
He laid his head down on her arm, allowing himself to sob.
