Bellamy felt his broken heart in his chest. Pain shot through his lungs as he inhaled. Clarke didn't even know his name. He was devastated, but he still had hope. She had recognized him.
She said he felt like home. And, this kind of memory trouble was to be expected. He just, he just wished it hadn't happened.
"Bellamy?" Clarke's blue eyes were wide, her mouth opening. "Bellamy?"
Bellamy stood next to her, resisting the urge to brush her blonde waves back. "Yes, Clarke," he nodded, noticing that Dr. Kane still hadn't left. He was hovering next to Clarke's feet, watching. "Do you," he took a deep breath. "Do you remember me, Princess?"
Bellamy watched her expressions change from complete recognition to absolutely confused. "Bellamy." She said. "Princess," she smiled.
Bellamy watched her again, wondering what was going through her mind. "Clarke it's me!" He urged.
"You can't push her, Bellamy!" Dr. Kane warned, stepping to Clarke's side.
"He's gone from me. You are. I love you. We, we moved." Clarke's eyebrows creased. "But, Marcus lives and works in Arkadia. Which would mean I'm in Arkadia right now."
"Clarke, calm down," Dr. Kane insisted. "Listen, you need a break. Bellamy and I will leave you and we'll let you get some rest, okay?"
"No!"
Bellamy and Dr. Kane both whipped their heads at her at her scream.
"No," she repeated. "I am not going back to sleep. He can't go! I need to know what is going on. Right now." She turned towards Bellamy, tears in her eyes. "Bellamy? I was away from you. For a really long time, and now I'm back in this town. I got hit by a train for Pete's sake, I'm begging you to explain everything to me. Why am I back here? Is this a dream?"
Bellamy had to clear the lump from his throat before he met her wide eyes. "Okay," he nodded. He pulled up the chair, his legs shaking as his nerves were on edge. "You are back, Clarke. Your mom finished that study."
Clarke nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, okay, I can remember that."
"You showed up at my house on my birthday. Almost a year ago," Bellamy continued. "Does that sound familiar?"
She nodded, her forhead still creased. "I think so. It's like it sounds familiar, but I can't picture it," she finished, sadly.
"That's okay," he smiled at her, but his heart was tearing. "Well, we've been together," he told her, happily.
"Re-really?" She asked, smiling. "After all that time?"
"It took us a minute," Bellamy admitted. "But, I never stopped loving you, Princess. And you never stopped, at least I hope."
Clarke returned his smile, her blue eyes watering. "Never," she confirmed.
Bellamy cleared his throat once more. "Well, you and I just graduated. With Raven and John and everyone else. We've been inseparable," he told her.
"Did we do everything the same?" She asked. "Have we been good? Have you thrown mud on me?" She laughed, wiping her pale cheek.
"No mud, but I have been kicking your ass on the PlayStation," Bellamy teased. "It's been perfect, Clarke. Just like before."
Clarke began to sob, her face dropping to her hands. "Wh-why can't I remember the last year?"
Dr. Kane rubbed her back, soothing her. "This is normal, Clarke. It's to be expected."
After a few moments, her sobs stopped. "Wait."
Bellamy and Dr. Kane both looked at her, waiting.
She turned her hands over, inspecting her finger. "Is this a tan line?"
