The Sword Fashioned From Wood and Metal

There was a sword fashioned from wood and metal

Whose properties were not that special,

But all the same it attracted those from far and wide

Who wished to board the fame and fortune ride.

What made this sword so precious, then,

if not for stone, legacy, or other spin.

Even its forger could not adequately explain

How his humble creation gained so much fame.

Thousands gathered from all around,

to see the sword they had heard about.

As the many begun to chat, they realised what they had done:

They had all made extraordinary claims, each and every one.

"It slain a dragon"; "It skewered a beast";

"It carved the fruits up for the feast";

"It cannot break"; "It never falters";

"It was used to knight the great Sir Walter".

When the truth of the matter came and passed,

Only one person remained there, the last.

He asked the smith the meaning of all this,

To which the answer was a singular bliss.

"I fashioned a sword from wood and metal,

its properties were not that special,

Yet still people came from far and wide

Because they sought what they thought the sword had to hide."
