I Realised

One time, only once

They thought of it like they had before

Made for the dunce

Once he knew that he could be more

Two times, barely twice

A wish was made upon a star

Stirred by no more mice

Twice did the afternoon seem afar

Three times, not four

The moons had been like they always were

But at its core

Free were the people to see the Earth

Four times, perhaps five

A station far from home could not hear

Them coming alive

Out there waiting for another year

Five times, I realised

What they had said without saying

The deal finalised

This was waiting, hoping, praying
