Ryan felt a tear trickle down his cheek.

He didn't bother to wipe it. He felt too numb to move. Too numb to register the sight of his father's coffin being lowered into the ground.

His father wasn't around most of the time, but he knew his father loved him deeply.

He may have not been around much, but every time he was home he would make it a point to spend that time with Ryan.

Even though their interests and personalities were so different. His father was an outdoors kind of guy. Sociable, fun, the life of a party.

But he would spend hours playing video games with Ryan. He would listen to his son's thoughts and ideas without trying to mould him any differently. And for that Ryan respected his dad and loved him. Even though he barely saw him.

Ryan could hear his mother sobbing loudly next to him.

Ironically, though she was the one who stayed home and looked after him as he was growing up, he didn't feel as close to her as he did to his dad.

He didn't feel the urge to comfort her.

Some instinctive part of him believed that in some way she resented his father. He sensed that his father didn't really love his mother either. They seemed to be stuck together by some twist of fate and he sensed they both resented it.

Now, his mother sobbing loudly for his father didn't evoke a sense of sympathy in him. It made him feel like she was a hypocrite.

He tried not to think such thoughts, not wanting to think badly of either of his parents. But the thoughts were there. Like insidious cancer cells, eating him from within.

He wondered who the old lady was. The one who shot his father so calmly and then got back into her car and waited till the police came.

His mother wouldn't tell him anything. He wasn't sure if the old lady had even talked to the police yet.

Yet, his heart didn't blame her.

The part of him that relied on his instincts told him there was someone else involved.

And that someone else was Amy.

She took his revenge on him.

And she would get to Cassie.

Suddenly jolted back to the moment, he looked around for Cassie.

His few close friends had turned up to pay their respects, but Cassie wasn't among them.

His thoughts suddenly turned to her. He hadn't been in touch with her over the past few days. He didn't use his phone anymore either.

"It's all right." He told himself. "Cassie isn't really a friend. She's just a girl I know. Why would she be here at my father's funeral?"

Yet, he sensed something was wrong.

Amy wanted to hurt Cassie. He didn't know how she would do it, just like he didn't know how she was behind his father's death.

But he knew.

It was Amy.

And he had to stop her.
