Jenny shut the door behind her quietly.

Her apartment was shrouded in shadows, much like her mind was.

She walked robotically to her couch and sat down stiffly.

Her hair and clothes were dishevelled, but her usual meticulous self was oblivious to how she looked.

One thought kept running through her mind in an endless loop - "I killed him."

Her initial horror at the blood spreading beneath his head and the unnatural twist of his body as he lay on the rocks, had numbed down to this one insidious thought.

She hadn't tried to find the rest of her colleagues.

She had stood there, at the edge of the waterfall, for what felt like hours.

Then she had turned away, walked back to the highway and hitchhiked her way back to the city until she could get a cab to get home.

She acted on autopilot.

Not thinking about what she was doing.

Not thinking about what her colleagues would assume when they realised she and Adrian were missing.

Not thinking about the implications of Adrian's body being found while she was missing.

She just had to get away from there.

She just had to get back to the safe cocoon of her own home.

She couldn't possibly go back to her colleagues and pretend everything was okay.

In fact, nothing in her life was okay.

She worked hard all her life for what? For some twisted pervert to ruin her career?

Would her bosses think of the long hours and sleepless nights she had put in to achieve her targets and make the organisation grow? Yeah, right!

She had spent so many years of her life loving Nick, waiting for him to commit to her. And what happened?

He knocked up some woman in a drunken state and decided to do the 'right thing' by marrying her.

She still stood by him as he debated his feelings for her with himself, and where did that leave her?

She was still alone and single in her mid-thirties while he had his comfortable little family to go back home to.

What would he think about her now that she had killed a man?

Would he still want to leave his pretty, bimbo of a wife for her?

As she sat in the gloom, the empty void of her life swallowed her.

She dimly thought of her mother.

But her mother had her own life, her own friends, her own happy bubble.

Her mother had been through such a difficult time after her first child, Sam, died in that accident and then her husband died of an unexpected cardiac arrest.

She didn't want to weigh her mother down with her own troubles. She had always been the strong one in the family. She couldn't let her mother see how broken she was.

Truth was, it made her feel ashamed to show anyone how broken she was. Even her own mother.

She felt so tired.

All she wanted to do was shower and sleep.

Actually a bath might be better.

Still on autopilot, she walked into her bathroom and filled her bath.

She tossed her dirty clothes on to the floor.

The strawberry scented bubbles wrapped her up in a comforting embrace.

She shut her eyes, losing herself to the sensation.

Not thinking, not feeling.

She sank lower and lower.

This felt so good.

She could live here, in this moment, forever.

She let her head dip under the water. Let the strawberry bubbles swallow her up. Then she let go and took a deep breath.

In the pocket of her jeans, just a few feet away, her water soaked phone stayed silent.

But miles and miles away, as Nick grew increasingly anxious about the woman he loved, Amy could deduce what had happened.

As she watched Nick light another cigarette and start pacing, a sadistic little smile twisted her lips.
