Elvis
Sometimes life is just cruel, the things you expect to happen don't always happen.
If there's one thing I have learned in life, is that nothing lasts forever and before every fall, there's this comfortable mood, almost happy atmosphere.
It's two months exactly since I got to know the sex of my baby and I have been anxious this past two months knowing that Laura could go into labour any moment soon.
Mom had asked for sometime away from work so she could attend to her and to be frank I was very glad.
I had gone to the pharmacy to get some aspirin for my headache since the ones at home was done.
As I paid for it and turned to leave, my phone rung, I picked it up as I listened to my mom shouting at the other end to hurry up because Laura's water just broke.
With a run that could put bolt to shame, I was in my car in minutes.
At the hospital, Laura was rushed into the emergency ward while my mom and Laura's Dad waited at the reception for any news from the doctors.
I paced up and down and almost tripped if not for moms grip on my arm.
Exactly nine hours later, the doctor came out and smiled at me as he tapped me gently on the back, ' you have a boy son '.
I couldn't believe my ears, me a father?, I laughed and hugged my mom who hugged me back as the doctor led us to the ward where Laura lay sprawled on the bed.
She opened her eyes and smiled up at me before closing them again.
I sat by her and held her hand as she slept, a smile evident on her face.
I kissed her cheeks as the nurse placed the baby in my arms, looking at me in amusement as I tried to balance him in my arms.
Mom laughed seeing my struggles and came to help me, showing me how to hold the baby properly.
After sometime, mom went home with Mr. Kingston so he could rest and also take his medicines.
I stayed by her all night until she was discharged the next day.

A year later.......
Elvis stood at the door tears running down his face, why him, he thought as he sank to the ground, crying out loud at how unfairly life had treated him, first he had lost his father, and then Sandra and now this.
He was in his office this morning when a call came from the hospital telling him that his son Gabriel had been admitted at the hospital.
Gabriel had grown up to be a very brilliant kid, at age one, he seemed to capture faces pretty well and seemed to sense when someone was a stranger.
He remembered how Gabriel had cried that night when Laura's grandmother had paid them a visit unannounced and wanted to hold his grandson in her arms.
Gabriel had cried till she gave him back to his mom, saying the baby didn't like her.
I rushed to the hospital, the same hospital that he was born in a year a ago.
I entered the reception, and saw Laura pacing up and down nervously.
As she spotted me, she run into my arms as she shed tears of relief, 'I thought you were not coming ', she said as she smiled up at me through her tears.
He's my son why wouldn't I come?, I asked her as she hid her face in my jacket but not answering.
I grew a little uncomfortable, I mean why wasn't she answering , it was a simple question I asked her yet...................
We were at the reception for a while before the nurse came in to tell us the doctor would like to see us.
At the doctors office, the doctor told us that he was fine and that he just had a little coughing fit and Laura panicked and brought her to the hospital.
