Mrs Brendon:
We moved early June, Elvis and all my children, we were lucky we had our visa's ready on time. We told no one, we just packed up and left. Thee was no one to escort us to the airport, no relatives to say goodbye to.
It was a wise decision I took, bringing my children here, especially my son. Miami wasn't bad, it was a great place to be especially if you look pass the fact that the place was cold than Ghana. Way chilling.
I looked at the large house we had managed to secure in Miami, it took a little spending though but it was worth all the spending we did.
The house was located near a beach, just the perfect scenery Elvis needed. It had all this beautiful palm trees which was full of coconuts. I was so overwhelmed when I first set foot onto the beach. To make my spending more worth it, people came to the beach on holidays to enjoy themselves and also to relax from all the fatigue they were
experiencing from their hard work. This means that there were people around us each and every single day, which was exactly what he needed at the moment to distract him from thinking about Sandra.
My son has been able to secure a job at one of the few cafe's that lined the beach, where he helped the manager with his paperwork. The pay wasn't much, but it helped sustain the family.
Most of the time, they got orders coming in from a whole lot of companies whom the cafe had been recommended to by some of the people who came to the beach to relax and enjoy the scenery as well as the peaceful and serene nature of the beach and were lucky enough to stumble upon the cafe and as a result, wanted to try their products.
Sometimes when there was nothing to do, I liked to walk on the beach by myself and reminisce about my life, during those peaceful moments, I came to realize the beauty and wisdom of nature.
Not many have the eyes to see nature. Most times, when I couldn't stand to watch the couples who passed by the cafe only having eyes for each other, I spend my time at a library which was farther downtown with Elvis. During my trips to the library, I always come across this beautiful and quiet spot where some rare flowers grew, as I said, not many people have the keen eye for nature.
So most times, Elvis and I will sit at that spot and listen to music, or watch the butterflies as they nestled on the flowers.
After, we would head to the library where we lost ourselves in the solitude of the books we chose.By the end of August, that year, I had read my way through a collection of Shakespeare's books such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Much Ado About nothing, The Tempest and many more.
I had also managed to get myself a membership card at the local spa.
Suddenly life wasn't bad anymore, it was true I still missed my husband and l wanted him back but I also knew that no matter the tears I shed, he was gone and gone forever, never to return, and no matter the times I stared at his pictures, just hoping for it to talk, I knew he was never coming back and that pictures don't talk.I was happy my son too was getting along fine, he had also convinced himself that, Sandra wasn't coming back, and as a result, he forgot about her and spent his time either at the library or at the park.
Most of the times, he would go alone, and I let him because I know he needed privacy and time to himself.
Most of the time too, I would force him to tell me about Sandra, I did this in the hopes that once he spoke about her, it will help him forget the pain. He would sit down beside me on most weekends and begin talking.
" Life has taken a lot of things from this family, even though life took her away from me , even before I could get to spend time with her, she would always be in my heart, a special space just saved for her, and no one, not even life or death, can rob me of the memories"
