Chapter 16
Reuniting, Refreshing
Caius followed Mia out of the throne room. Once he caught up her, Mia still showed no visible signs of having noticed him beside her.
"Mia." He said.
"Caius." She acknowledged.
"Will you be returning to our chambers this evening?" He asked.
"Will Maria be in attendance as well?" She asked.
"You know there is nothing between us, Mia. My heart belongs only to you." Caius replied. "Whatever Maria and I had, was centuries ago."
"It didn't stop you from defending her instead of me." Mia said in an indifferent voice.
"Mia, I will always protect and defend you, you're my wife." Caius said, taking her hand.
"I want Maria gone." Mia said.
"Then she will be."
"As for James, he will leave soon as well. Unless he becomes a part of the guard." Mia said, looking down.
Caius nodded.
"Are you coming with me love?" He finally asked.
Mia gave a small smile and nodded, taking Caius's offered hand.

Mia and Caius sat at the roof of the castle, laughing and talking.
"It has been so long since we last did this." She said.
"I agree. It was a few months before our marriage that we last did this, was it not?" Caius asked.
"It was. I believe we need to do this more often. It's so refreshing." She said, a wide smile not leaving her face.
"Clear, starry nights always are." Caius said, smiling lightly. "Though they are not as common now as they were years ago."
"Of course not."
"A few hundred years ago, when it wasn't very often that the sky became unclear, I always took the stars and their beauty for granted. I always thought that they will always be visible. Now, I believe that I underestimated change." He told her.
"Change is never to be underestimated." Mia said.
Before she could continue, they were interrupted by Demetri.
"Yes?" Mia asked.
"The masters are asking for you in the throne Room." He replied.
"At this hour?" Mia asked in shock.
"It's an emergency meeting." He informed.
With no further talking, the couple headed to the throne room.
