Chapter 13😙

Nathan's POV
Few days before Emily's phone call...
        
      "I'm going outside to get some fresh air", I said to Delcro as I walked out of the class during recess.

"Say hi to the sun for me", he called out as I walked outside.

Smiling, I stood in front of the veranda rail as I shoved my hands into my pockets. Emily was no where to be seen. She was strangely quiet during lessons.

Why do I even care?

I guess I was deeply engraved in my thoughts that I didn't notice it when Nina sneaked up behind me. "Boom", she said as I jumped back in fright. Laughing, i drew her into a warm embrace. If only Emily was more like her.

Why do I even care?

"Are you going to the cafeteria? " asked Nina, grinning from ear to ear as she pulled back.

"Nope. You can have my food" I replied, reciprocating the smile.

"Aww thanks" said Nina and was about to leave when she turned back and blurted out "That reminds me. I heard about the case".

"What case? " I replied.

"Emily's of course. Who else?", replied Nina as she leaned on the rail. Suddenly I became angry.

"Change the subject", I replied, trying to compose myself.

"Not gonna happen. I cant sit back and watch my two best friends pull each others hair apart " said Nina.

"Emily has a very bad character. She acts childish" I replied, thinking of how she insulted me.

"Explain" said Nina.

Being the most nicest guy on earth, I explained to Nina how Emily called me an idiot for just no reason.

"She was angry. At least you should have given her a chance to explain " replied Nina as I finished.

"Too bad" I replied. "She's a chicken"

"Hahhaahahahaha" laughed Nina, forcing me to laugh also.

"You know, now that I've heard the story from both sides, I think you both are stupid" said Nina.

"Not me" I muttered under my breath. Emily was beginning to get on my nerves.

"So you respect her? " asked Nina after some time.

"Yeah" I replied and smiled. Don't know why, just did.

"Hmm.... So you like her? " asked Nina.

    SILENCE..

"Do you like her? " asked Nina again. 

"Nina leave me alone" I said. 

"I won't. Do you like Emily? " asked Nina. At times, Nina can be as stubborn as a blind bat.

       SILENCE...

"Nathan I'm waiting " said Nina, interrupting my thoughts.

"I don't know" I replied truthfully.

"Nathan you're making this hard. It's a simple yes or no question" said Nina.

"Don't I have the right to like somebody? " I asked her.

"Yeah, I guess you do " replied Nina, giving up .

"Don't tell her", I told her as she was about to leave.

"That you like her or that you don't?" asked Nina, clearly taunting me.

"Just don't tell her about this convo" I replied, brushing my hair with my fingers.

"No problem. Got to go" replied Nina as she left.
