| Melissa's POV |
"I moved from my home town to here, wanting to start fresh on life after living a pretty difficult one back home" I said with a soft yet oddly sad smile on my face.
Toast listened to me carefully as he took in every word. He seemed intrigued with my past.
"Funny how I tried to run away from living a nightmare. But it seems I have ran into a more dangerous nightmare" I referred to the whole situation with Ghost.
I tucked my legs up and instinctly curled up into a ball. I wanted to get away from all this but I promised Toast I would help him.
Toast put his hand on my knee gently. I looked up at him. He gave me a gentle and reassuring smile, his blue eyes locked onto mine.
"I know everything is going wrong now. And you losing your friend makes things much worse but I promise you we will set things right. I am not asking you to forgive Ghost. But know that I am here for you." I smiled at him. Toast has come off as the kind of friend everyone needs. He is playful but can be serious in the appropriate moments.
I let out a soft yawn which oddly made Toast blush. I rubbed my eyes. "I am getting sleepy" I said in a childish way. Toast's cheeks were a bright pink colour.
He brushed it off with a gentle smile. "Do you want me to leave so you can sleep?"
I shook my head. "I am not letting you go home this late at night. You can sleep on the couch here tonight." I said with a determined grin, standing up from the couch.
"Are you sure? I won't be a bother?" he asked with a titled head, watching me walk to the built in cupboard with spare bedding for guests.
"Not at all! It's nice to have company for once" I chuckled sweetly, handing him the bedding.
"Well I am glad to keep you company." he said as he set out the bedding neatly on the couch.
I bit the bottom of my lip as he sat back down. He looked at me in confusion.
He was a 5'9 male. And he was going to be sleeping on a tiny two seater couch.
"Maybe I should sleep on the couch instead. You're too tall and I am worried you'll be uncomfortable.." I said, looking at him then looking at the couch, imagining how he'd look laying down.
He shook his head. "You didn't let me give you my bed, I am doing the exact same for you. I will be fine"
I narrowed my eyebrows at him and gave him a childish pout as he glared back with determination and victory. He knew he had won. I rolled my eyes but I couldn't help but smile.
"you're welcome to use the shower if you need. Towels are always on the drying rack" I notified him before I walked into my room.
It was 3am and my body was ready to shut down for the night. I flopped down onto the bed and let sleep engulf me. I shut my eyes and drifted off into sleep.
____________
I woke up early the next morning, meaning I still had a few hours left to get my full eight hours, but my body decided against it. I rubbed my eyes and stretched. A yawn escaped my lips. The sound of a running shower filled my eyes.
