Imagine:
It's Friday night, which means Movie Night with your best friend, Tom. Yes, Tom Hiddleston. The two of you had grown up together, days spent in Hyde Park with a picnic, sneaking out at night for a walk along the Thames whilst quoting Shakespeare, and Friday Movie Nights. You were closer than brother and sister, something you treasured and valued a lot, having never had an actual sibling. You had always been able to tell Tom anything, knowing he would never judge you or question you.
The media attention Tom received now he was a famous face hadn't affected your friendship as much as you had feared it would. True, you didn't see as much of him as you liked, but it only made your time spent together more precious. He texted you almost daily and your weekly Skype session was guaranteed to end in fits of giggles.
'Absence certainly did make the heart grow fonder', you pondered to yourself, as you gazed at a photo of you and Tom that was proudly displayed on your kitchen shelf.
You wondered whether such absence had changed your feelings towards Tom. As much as you hated to admit it, you had always had the tiniest of crushes on him, since the moment you both became teenagers and you started to feel something you couldn't put into words, other than describing the butterflies he gave you by simply grinning.
As you put the pizza in the oven, the doorbell rang, interrupting your daydreaming. Opening the door, Tom gripped you in a hug before you could even say 'Hello'. His smell hit you like a soothing breeze on a hot day; a sweet, woody, masculine smell that was unique to him alone.
"Nice to see you too, Tom!", you rasped, his hug starting to suffocate you.
"Ehehe, sorry love. I've just missed you so much!", he confessed, letting you down and shutting the door behind him.
"Since yesterday?", you joked, whilst swatting away the butterflies that were taking to flight again, while you fiddled around getting the two of you some drinks.
"What can I say? I can't get enough of you.", was Tom's comeback. You laughed along with him, not knowing whether he was serious not.
It was times like this, when the two of you bantered and joked, that the lines between friendship and romance blurred and you was unsure of where you stood. But it was a small sacrifice to make if it meant having him with you.
"Mmm, smells amazing," Tom commented as he fell down on your sofa and picked up the pile of DVD's you had left on the coffee table. "What are we watching tonight, then?"
You walked through with the pizza, garlic bread and snacks and set it all on the table. Tom reached out to grab a handful of crisps, but you batted his hand out the way.
"Uh uh. Not until you choose a film. Stop trying to avoid the situation here.", you ordered playfully.
Tom groaned. "You made me come over to watch a chick flick that you can probably quote word for word?"
"Thomas William Hiddleston, I think we've known each other long enough for you to be able to admit you love a good chick flick as much as I do!", you teased, prodding him in the ribs as you slumped down next to him on the sofa.
"Fine," a sigh of defeat escaping his lips, "Lets watch The Notebook."
Tom went to get up to put the disc in.
"No need, it's already loaded.", you confessed, pulling him back down and snuggling into him as he rested his arms around your shoulders.
He smiled down at you, and laughed. "I should have guessed."
Halfway in and you were blubbering like a baby, and for the first time, you were embarrassed to have Tom see you like this. You turned your head to the side, quickly wiping your tears.
"Hey, what's wrong?", Tom asked, pulling you in a little tighter. "Why'd you stop crying?", the film now paused on Ryan Gosling's face.
"Most guys would ask why a girl starts crying, not why she stops.", you tried to joke weakly.
"I'm serious, (Y/N). Tell me, what's up?". His eyes held your gaze, and he brought up his hand to wipe your tears away.
"I... I just... I feel different when I'm around you recently. Like I'm embarrassed to cry in front of you. I miss you when you're gone, I get so lonely... For goodness sake, I sound pathetic. Forget I said..." You stutter.
"You're not pathetic at all. I miss you too, more than you know. It's like you're in my head sometimes. I'm reading something and I think of you, or I'll go in a supermarket and I see your favourite Ben and Jerrys and instantly, I picture you curled up. I even find myself humming along to your awful taste in music!"
You grin, pretending to be offended. "Excuse me, you're the one with weird music collection, mister."
"Ehehe, is that a smile I see?"
A comfortable silence fell between you. You wished you could freeze this precise moment, so you could bottle it up and treasure it.
"You're an amazing person, you know?", Tom's deep, husky voice filling the silence.
You returned his gaze boldly. "You're pretty awesome yourself, you know."
The air grew static all of a sudden, and you were aware of how close you were, how Tom's lips were within perfect kissing range, and how he was looking at you as if really seeing you for the first time.
"Give me a chance to treat you how you deserved to be treated, to make you happy, you look after you. I know it won't be easy, I'm not saying that, but..."
You cut him off by placing your lips to his. It was a perfect first kiss; sweet, tender, and full of promise and hope.
"Yes, yes, and a thousand times yes."
