Avi didn't know how long he had been lying on their shared bed, face down. He only knew that the tears were still running down his cheeks freely, when he felt the mattress dip beside him.
"Honey?" Mitch's soft voice sent a shiver down Avi's spine immediately. "Honey are you alright?"
Avi shrugged his shoulders and raised his head. "I don't know..." he said with his voice strained from crying.
"I understand, Avi. I understand you to the fullest. Tonight went anything but smooth for you" Mitch said softly. "So whatever you want, whatever you need right now, we'll do our very best to give it to you, we want to make you feel better. I am here for now, Scott will join us in a moment, he's helping the others tidy up."
"Tidy up? But what about dinner? I prepared dessert and your parents..." Avi spoke up, sitting up slowly.
"Our parents understand your feelings as well, Avi, they just want you to do whatever you need to do now in order to feel better" Mitch explained. "So don't worry, okay?"
Avi gave in. "Okay..." he said.
"That's a good start" Mitch encouraged him. "Now... what do you need?"
"I don't know. I feel like... like everything is just crashing down on me. I was so confident about tonight. About telling everyone. But now it's all gone and I..." he shrugged his shoulders, seemingly at a loss of words. "I don't know, I'm just tired..."
Mitch smiled. "Okay, so why don't you get ready for bed, Honey, so we can cuddle up once Scott is with us?""Yeah, that sounds good" Avi replied with a small smile on his face.
"Good, so we have a plan" Mitch said almost cheerfully. "I'll just head downstairs and see if I can help."
"Okay." Avi got up slowly and went into the adjacent bathroom while Mitch stepped out of the room and ran down the stairs.
"Oh you're finished?" Mitch asked surprised when he saw that the table was cleared and Scott was just putting the decorative items back on the it.
"Yeah, of course we are. I had more than enough help" Scott replied with a smile on his face. "How is he?"
Mitch sighed. "I don't know. He has been crying and he's clearly hurt by everything that has happened, but we haven't talked in detail for now, I think that should wait until tomorrow." The small blonde didn't protest when he felt Scott pulling him into a warm embrace.
"We're going to help him through this, Babe, it's going to be alright" Scott spoke up.
"I'm just scared that he leaves us again. When he did for the first time it was a horrible" Mitch's voice was shaky, and when he bit his trembling lower lip he felt tears welling up. "I just don't want to loose him again."
"He won't leave, Babe, don't be scared" Scott said softly. "He just needs us to reassure him." Scott pressed a soft kiss on Mitch's forehead and held him in silence, until they heard Mike clearing his throat.
"Sorry, I didn't want to interrupt you, but we're heading out now. I think you need some time with Avi. We're taking Esther with us for a drink or two" Mike explained. "I guess she needs some company as well..."
Mitch broke out of Scott's embrace only to throw his arms around his father, hugging him tightly. "Thank you, Dad" he simply said. "For everything."
"You're welcome, Son" Mike replied, visibly moved by this gesture. "I love you, too."
They let go of one another and Mitch smiled at him. "I'll ring you up tomorrow, we should go out for lunch and just spend some time together, I hate that tonight was cut short..." he mused.
