Famous Last Words - Chapter 1
I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone,
I rested my head against my locker, closing my eyes to take note of every single lyric. I’d forgotten how good they were. It was rare to find guys in this school who actually had some musical talent – most were all about the sport. I’m proud to say that one of these musically gifted guys is my brother, Frank Iero.
Pain shot through my ear as my headphones were yanked out. I glanced up, ready to snap.
"Hold back the anger Terra," My best friend Charlotte stood in front of me, radiating excitement in all directions.
"What’s with the bubbles?" I giggled at her current expression. If she smiled much more, it’d leave her face.
"My Chem are back!" she exploded, doing a dance in the corridor, making people stop and stare.
"I know," I said simply.
Charlotte stopped mid-dance, "What do you mean you know?" she stared.
"My brother."
The realisation hit her, "Ohhhhh yeah. Whoops."
"You amaze me Char," I laughed, "You forget he’s my brother but you still talk about him constantly."
This time she laughed too, "That’s why you love me," she commented, "But, I still can’t believe Frank’s your brother! I mean have you seen him? He’s ho-" she cut off mid-sentence, her eyes widening like a goldfish.
I swivelled round to see what she was staring at. I rolled my eyes at the four brightly coloured guys approaching us.
"Oh my gosh! He’s coming!" Charlotte whispered loudly, "Do I look okay? What about my hair?" she asked, frantically trying to make herself even more presentable than she already was.
"You look great. You always do," I smiled, still watching My Chemical Romance approach. Frank’s mouth twitched slightly, and as they came closer, a smile appeared on his face.
"Did you see that?" Charlotte exclaimed, "He smiled!" she squealed, practically jumping on me. I lost my balance and we both crashed into a heap on the floor, sending paper flying everywhere.
"You alright there T?" Frank approached, smirking down at me. I heard Charlotte suck in a breath as he was practically next to her. She’s obsessed in a really awesome way; I always get some fun out of her obsessive crush on Frank.
"Yeah, just checking out the floor Frankie," I answered, trying not to laugh. The smirk temporarily left his face.
"Yes Frankie, your sister’s perfectly fiinee," Gerard mocked, his bright red hair falling into his eyes.
"Well if you wanted to do that, you should’ve borrowed Ray’s hair," Frank answered sarcastically, reaching his hand out to Charlotte, helping her to her feet. I heard her mutter ‘thank you’ under her breath, or at least I hope it was that. I didn’t need to look at her to know she would be bright red in the face. It just about matched the colour of Gerard’s hair.
Gerard howled like a wolf, however Ray didn’t look too impressed, "You don’t need to look at them to know they’re related," he muttered at the reference to his fro.
Frank and I had the same coal black hair, only mine was slightly longer. But, Ray wasn’t wrong. If you closed your eyes and just listened to our voices, you’d know in an instant that we were family. We both had the same attitude and sarcastic tone to our voices.
"Terra, do you plan on sitting there all day?" Charlotte looked at me. I could tell by her tone of voice that she was trying to impress a certain band member. I acted like it was the most normal thing ever and I wasn’t too creeped out that she was constantly drooling over my brother.
I realised I was still on the floor, "Oh yeah," I said, gathering up some of the scattered paper, unsure whether I was holding my English essay or my biology report.
A hand extended out to me. I took it and got to my feet. I glanced up to say thank you, but my words faltered when a pair of mesmerising hazel eyes met mine.
"You okay Terra?" the voice behind those eyes asked.
"Um…yeah, thanks," I said, reaching back down to pick up the remaining sheets of paper. Mostly, I just wanted to avoid those eyes.
"Terra, you do remember my brother don’t you?" Gerard asked, making me look up again.
I turned back to him. I took a look at his eyes again, and this time I recognised them, "Mikey?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yeah," Mikey answered, that one word making my stomach flip.
I shook my head, "I didn’t recognise you," I admitted, "You’ve change. A LOT."
Standing back, I had the chance to take a closer look at him. Only now did I realise how much he actually had changed. The last time I saw him, his hair was short and dark, but now I realised it has been replaced with a light brown and slightly spiked hairstyle. It was a little messy but it looked really good on him. You could see those gorgeous eyes more. What was I saying? I shook my head again.
That wasn’t the only change in him. His black clothing had been replaced with dark blue jeans and a jacket almost as red as Gee’s hair, which covered the plain white T-shirt that fitted his body perfectly. Stop it! I screamed mentally.
I realised I staring and shook my head slightly.
Note to Self: Stop shaking head. He's going to think there's something wrong with you.
I tried to avert my eyes, but I still found myself trapped by the same gorgeous eyes that I’d just been drooling over. Only now I’d noticed there were no glasses anymore. I dragged my eyes down, away from his eyes, and towards his mouth. His lips were perfectly sculpted and they were pressed into a line. At least I knew one thing was the same: he still wasn’t smiling. But, he still looked extremely kissable. I felt my cheeks go hot so to cover, I stared at my feet.
What was happening? Since when did I start checking out one of my brother’s best friends? This wasn’t normal and it needed to stop.
Frank cleared his throat, interrupting my train of thought.
My head snapped up, "What?" I asked, only just returning to reality. Next to me, Charlotte giggled. She knew what I was thinking.
"I said what classes do you have today T?" he said, looking slightly puzzled, aswell as the other guys.
I grabbed my schedule from my still-open locker, "Um…I have English, Maths, Free Period, Biology and Creative Writing." I answered.
"Me too," Mikey commented, looking at me.
I didn’t trust myself to say much, "Awesome," I smiled, my eyes lingering on his lips again. I felt my cheeks starting to get hot again, so I went back to staring at the floor, even though I’d just stopped looking at what I was really interested in.
