K: yes? Who is this I'm talking to?
Right. I did not think this through. I should have said Hi it's Tom. Or at least be smart enough to put a decent profile pic and not a picture of the family's golden retriever.
T: its Tom
There was a typing motion and then nothing.
T: Hiddleston
How many Tom's are there in her life? A next door neighbor called Tom. An old friend Tom? Tom Cruise?
Maybe an ex or current boyfriend Tom.
It suddenly occured to me. What slim chances that this amazing woman is single?
K: Hi Tom... Can I help you with anything?
Her prompt reply did nothing to erase the nausea I suddenly have.
"Hey you okay?" Harry nudged me. Apparently my inner struggles are too apparent for the person sitting next to me in the car.
"Oh nothing... I just have to put my specs on. The screen is blurry" I gave him a reassuring grin.
The WhatsApp beeped.
K: did my assistant do something wrong?
T: no... Nothing of the sorts.
I bit my lip wondering what to type next. I did not think this through.
A typing action came up and then stopped
"Tom your specs?" Harry reminded me.
"Oh right... I have it somewhere..." I absentmindedly reached out to the jacket pocket. My specs were dirty but I couldn't care less. I had them on for a second before a hairy hand reached out and grabbed them off.
"You are impossible" Harry snorted and started cleaning my specs with a tissue. And perched them back on my nose.
"Hmm right..." I hear myself say. Lost in thought of what to say next.
T: heading back to the apartment?
K: yes. Is everything okay?
T: yep everything is good.I scratched the back of my head. It's shouldn't be this hard. I typed my next sentence with care. Backspacing a considerable amount.
T: since we got off early. Would you like to have coffee later?
Sent.
Silent.
"Tom let's go..." Harry motioned me to get out of the car and into the hotel.
I followed suit still clutching the phone. The elevator dinged softly. Sam my security entered first as usual and we followed behind him.
We made our way up in silence.
My WhatsApp was also silent.
The bed in my hotel suite looked crisp and inviting. As Harry and Sam excused themselves, I found myself sprawled on top of the covers. My phone next to me. Still not beeping. I closed my eyes and exhaustion took over.
***
I shivered as I am welcomed by the cool elevator air as I made my way in. A bead of sweat trickled down my nose and I wiped them off with the towel in my hand. It was a productive gym session. Tiring but so satisfying.
Trusty Sam stood motionless in front of me. I grabbed the phone from my gym bag. I sighed as I checked the WhatsApp application. All messages have been answered. A few from Mom, some from Lucas and a quick but entertaining spat with Hemsworth.
