school would start in three days and jisoo was not pleased about it. he could barely keep his eyes open at 8:30 in the morning, how was he going to get back into waking up at 6:00? regardless, jisoo rolled over in his bed and felt the emptiness on the other side; seokmin was gone. not to be dramatic, but he was. he had to get up at 5:00 as his dad offered him an internship at the company to test his skills and knowledge. seokmin would now have to start dressing up in collared shirts and waking up at earlier than usual. if all goes well, seokmin may have to drop from school to pursue his ambition to work alongside his father. jisoo knew he had the skill as seokmin had been in this mindset since he was sixteen and brushed up on everything he needed to make his father's company continue growing.
jisoo was so proud of seokmin. he recalled the phone call he had gotten the night before and how happy he looked when his father was explaining the situation. jisoo couldn't help but smile as seokmin hugged him out of joy, almost taking the life out of the older. but a feeling of doubt filled jisoo's head. he still didn't know what he wanted to be. he had no path to follow and no idea of what to do with his life beyond this point. his parents said that it didn't matter what he did and they would be proud with whatever but that didn't help him. everyone in his life was getting somewhere and he was stuck in this little box with no way of moving forward.
jisoo couldn't help but frown. he wished he was more organised, he wished he was motivated. he wanted to stay in this period of his life where it didn't really matter that much and where he could live carefreely. to get his mind off things, jisoo reached for the bottom drawer of the bedside table and got out his drawing book. it was almost full now with sketches worked into the pages, smudged with lead and inked with black. jisoo hadn't shown anyone this yet as he was afraid of criticism. he still didn't know if his art was worthy of this world and was insecure of displaying it. right now, he was working on inking a drawing of his breakfast a couple mornings ago when seokmin was sound asleep.
jisoo had woken up and had the urge to draw something, his hand itching to be pressed against a rough page and eyes desperate to watch the process of a drawing coming together. so he drew what was right in front of him. jisoo had definitely gotten better at drawing still life and he was still shocked that he could produce something as beautiful as his drawings. he remembered something that seokmin had said when accidentally finding one of his boyfriend's drawings of succulents on the coffee table.
"hyung, you are so talented" seokmin acknowledged, gaping and marvelling at the little doodles of various plants jisoo had drawn in the span of twenty minutes. jisoo blushed deeply and snatched the piece of paper away.
"stop, seokmin" jisoo mumbled, holding the drawings in embarrassment as the taller laughed.
"i'm serious, jisoo, you could make a living off of these if you really wanted to" seokmin told him wholeheartedly, meaning every single word he said.
"really?" jisoo asked in uncertainty and quickly got a nod from seokmin.
"of course"
and as he continued to overlap the lead with the fine tip pen, jisoo's mind had clicked something together. he loved drawing and felt a decent amount of passion towards art, so why not allow that to go further? seokmin's words of encouragement flew over jisoo's head at the time but now, in deep thought, jisoo was starting to like that idea.
he suddenly got excited as his mind started spinning at the thought of possibilities of the future. an artist. the ability to express everything he was feeling on a canvas and drowning in the job he dreamed of as well as making money and sustaining himself. jisoo let out a little laugh of happiness as he had just found out where his future was heading.

seokmin had finished work at 5:45 and jisoo waited in the building's lobby for the man. he sat weirdly on the coral red one seater, uncomfortable at all these business people rushing around and staring at him like he was an alien. probably because he was wearing a hoodie and converse and looked as if he didn't belong in this type of environment because he didn't. jisoo checked the time upon hearing the elevator dinging as a bunch of people began to spill out of the receptacle, one of which was the person jisoo was waiting for.
"have you been here long?" seokmin asked, approaching the older male in his work attire that jisoo laughed a little at. he looked so mature for his age now, along with his styled hair. jisoo smoothed out his boyfriend's coat and pulled him down for a small kiss.
"not really" jisoo shrugged. "how was your day?"
"it actually wasn't as bad as i thought it would be" seokmin smiled, taking jisoo's hand in his and walking out of the building. the sun was just about touching the rim of the horizon with the moon already making its place in the sky. now that night had taken over, the temperature had dropped while they walked and jisoo wished he had worn a shirt under his hoodie.
"are you cold?" seokmin asked, looking at jisoo with concern brimming his eyes as the older rubbed his own arms and shook his head.
"i'll be fine"
"always so stubborn" seokmin laughed, putting jisoo in front of him and pulling him inside his coat so that they were both bundled up. jisoo turned crimson and the two began to awkwardly waddle down the sidewalk, laughing at their strange position. it did help though; seokmin was surprisingly very heated and supplied jisoo with a good amount of warmth.
jisoo stared out in front of him and did a double take when seeing someone. he halted and almost made seokmin trip over himself.
"sejong?"
the businessman glanced to the side and a smile instantly formed on his face. "oh, jisoo"
the two seemed to be in their own little world as seokmin's existence wasn't acknowledged for the next minute or so, even if jisoo was still inside his coat. seokmin never would have thought he and sejong would come face to face again but the fates seemed to have other plans. they made eye contact for a good few seconds, both men having a flame of resentment in their eyes. sejong was the first to speak.
"we haven't hung out by ourselves in a while. you free tonight?"
seokmin couldn't believe his ears. sejong was just so straight up with his thoughts and gave no fucks with what came out of his mouth. couldn't he get it through his thick skull that jisoo had a boyfriend and had been in a relationship for a few months? seokmin was completely ticked off right now with his mouth falling agape when jisoo laughed.
"you know what, that seems pretty tempting" jisoo joked with seokmin spluttering out in shock.
"w-what? whoa, wait, the fuck?" seokmin glanced down at jisoo with furrowed eyebrows and a worried expression. the older laughed and patting his cheeks, kissing seokmin's right one and feeling how cold it was. sejong seemed to not like that action as he huffed.
"i'm kidding, you idiot" the american turned back to sejong. "we're actually heading home now but maybe we can talk later"
the rapid heartbeat in seokmin's chest calmed as he breathed out, completely relieved. jisoo had just been joking but for a split-second, seokmin believed his words. sejong had been his friend for two years now and they may have shared moments together that he and seokmin hadn't yet. to seokmin, jisoo was vulnerable to switching to sejong and it made him insecure about what he was being into the relationship.
jisoo said goodbye to sejong and pulled at the collar of the coat, signalling to seokmin that they should be leaving. the younger caught the annoyed expression sejong held in his face as he walked and glared at him. who does that guy think he is?
