Chapter 4 - Fun Girl Talk
At school, days later, the teenagers sat at lunch. Macie and Jughead hadn't made it evident that they were together, instead they'd hold hands underneath tables, kiss around corners, and left all of it until after they'd gotten home. For example now, as Jughead explained what he'd seen at Pop's that morning, Macie held his hand underneath the table in comfort as he tried very deeply not to look to her every second. It wasn't as though they were ashamed of being together, it just wasn't as necessary at the moment.
"Another win for the bad guys. No one was there. His entire staff quit." Jughead explained. "He said that he's not as sure how long he could keep the doors open. Maybe a week."
"It's because of what happened to my dad. People are freaking out." Archie shook his head. "And I've gotta be honest, guys, I don't see myself going back anytime soon."
"Wait, I'm sorry, am I hearing acceptance?" Betty spoke up. "I'm not letting one psychopath with a gun dictate what happens to our place! Jug, you went crazy trying to save the drive-in."
"I can't take on anymore social issues right now." Jughead sighed. "My hands are full."
"With your dad, of course." Betty nodded, going over to rub his back as Macie stared at her hand. "And he should be your priority. Macie? You can help get the River Vixens to help clean it up."
"I mean, I guess I can try, but Cheryl's back. I'm pretty sure she's gonna want them back or at least a say in what they do." She pointed.
"You can take Cheryl." Veronica encouraged, Macie raising her brow at the girl in response.
"Okay and I'll take point in helping Pop Tate." Betty offered.
"I'll help too, Betty. Anything to help me get away from my parents, I'm in." Veronica nodded.
"Might as well sign me up too." Macie sarcastically raised her hand, making Jughead smile down at her. He took his hand away from hers, patting her thigh.
"Well, I've got to jet. I'm out to meet my dad's court appointed joke of a lawyer at the sheriffs station." He groaned.
"Yeah, I've gotta meet Janice's." Macie sighed.
"I'm gonna come with you too, Jug, I've gotta drop some flyers off to Sheriff Keller." Archie added. They'd gone together stopping at the reception desk for a moment. Once Macie was told which room her sister was waiting in, she'd went on her toes to kiss her boyfriends cheek goodbye...until she remembered that Archie was standing just on the other side of Jughead. So she'd patted his chest instead.
"Yup, I'm just gonna—Yup—" She stuttered, nodding herself off awkwardly. Within Janice's meeting, it hadn't sounded like much, compared to FP's at least. As the man had been looking to at least 20 years for also handling the body and concealing the murder, Janice was looking to at least 10 for being an accessory. Macie hadn't told Jughead this when they'd met up later. She'd feared that it'd only make him angrier, that he'd assume that they were being unfair because he was from the Southside when, in all reality, that had nothing to do anything.
