"I'm afraid I might not be able to understand all the legal lingo in here," Cynthia said to Mr. Buckler opposite her. They were having their final meeting before she had to serve papers and Mr. Buckler had just handed her the divorce petition that she had to take to Andrew.

"No, no! We'll go through it together of course," Andrew answered hurriedly, "See this first part is just identification details. Here you have you and your husband's name and where you were married. Here you have your children's names. Here is the reason for divorce, irreconcilable differences. This just says you don't think your differences can be resolved. And the last part here is what I think we need to focus on a little more. Here we say that you as the petitioner would like to have the prenuptial agreement annulled and that you would like to have full custody of the children, child maintenance, a lump sum order and a sale of property order for some of the joint assets. Once we hand in the petition the court will look at all the assets you have and set about dividing them equally."

"That seems alright," Cynthia replied, "But I can tell you now, he will not like this last part. I don't know. I'm scared. Maybe I should just stick to divorcing him and going my own way without fighting him for..."

"Absolutely not!" Stacy exclaimed without letting her finish. "You can't do that, Cynthia. He did you wrong and if you don't fight him for it, you'll make him think it's okay to treat people like that. And who knows how many other women's lives he'll go out and screw up?"

"Okay. If you say so, I guess. I'm really nervous though," Cynthia replied, her voice trailing off.

"It's okay. I would be too. But I'm here for you. I won't let him hurt you." Stacy put her hand on Cynthia's shoulder.

"When he sees the last part, expect him to be outraged," Mr. Buckler said. "But make sure you say that you can't say anything until you have your lawyer there with you. And then we'll set up a date for negotiations. I don't think he would want to go to court with this one."

Mr. Buckler continued to brief Cynthia and Stacy on what to expect in the upcoming weeks, and the women listened attentively.
