The next morning Adrien awoke to the maid bringing his breakfast into his room. He sat up and gratefully took the tray and thanked her as she hurried off. As he ate the events from the night before played over and over in his head. I need to find out who they are Adrien thought to himself repeatedly and he already knew exactly how to find out. He decided that he would talk to the guards that escorted him to his schoolroom each morning. The guards always knew about everything going on in the kingdom. Surely, someone knew about the group of dressed up individuals that snuck into the woods at night.

Adrien had quickly eaten his breakfast and gotten dressed for the day. He wanted to head to his lessons a few minutes early so he could have time to chat with the guards. As Adrien steeped out of the room the guards turned to him and bowed. "Good morning your highness." they said in unison. "Good morning." Adrien replied. As they began to walk Adrien mustered his courage to ask them for the information he wanted. "I've heard a rumor about a group of individuals that run around in costumes at night." Adrien began, "Do you know anything about that?" The guards remained silent behind him for a moment before one of the guards finally spoke. "Yes, your highness", the guard replied, "They are just a group of kids that like to hang out past curfew. They wear the costumes to keep the guards from knowing who they are, but they are harmless I assure you." Adrien took in the information the guards had given him. They're just kids going to hang out after dark. They didn't look all that young though, so if they are kids they must be close to my age! Adrien smiled at the thought.

The rest of Adrien's day was a blur as his mind continuously wandered to the group of kids that he had seen sneaking into the woods. All he could think about was finding a way to meet these rebels and join their group. But, how would I even get out of the castle? Adrien thought to himself as he walked into his room. His father had made sure that the castle was heavily guarded and that his son was accompanied by two guards at all times. The only time Adrien got any peace was when they left him in his room at night. He knew walking out the door was not an option and his window was too high off the ground to climb out of. Though, he walked over and checked it anyway. Plus, he didn't even have a costume that he could wear. Adrien threw a punch at the royal flag hanging on the wall beside his bed, cracking his knuckles on the concrete wall behind it. Adrien cursed as he cradled his now injured hand. However, his hand was soon forgotten as a loud rumbling sound came from behind the flag.

What was that? Adrien thought as he slowly pulled back the flag from the wall revealing an open passageway. "Whoa." Adrien exclaimed as he stared into the darkness of the passage. Adrien grabbed the candle from his bedside and slowly crept into the passageway. As he began to follow the passage he realized that it wasn't just one passageway but many passageways that were all interconnected. Adrien realized he had found his escape route and smiled. I can get out of here after all! Adrien thought excitedly. However, his excitement was short lived as he realized that he still did not have a costume to wear. Adrien slumped against the wall and sighed. Yes, he could leave the castle but could not show up without a costume. If they knew he was the prince he would most likely be unwelcomed as they were going against his father. Adrien stared up at the concrete wall above him as his hopes slowly began to fade. Oh mom, what would you tell me to do if you were here? Adrien thought sadly. Just as he was about to head back to his room it hit him. Of course, Mom! Adrien thought excitedly as he sprung to his feet. A flashback quickly raced through his mind showing a young Adrien playing dress up with his mom in the attic with a trunk of old clothes. Clothes, his mother had told him, were costumes some of his ancestors had worn to their Crowning Day Balls. Balls just like the one that his father would soon be throwing him where he would have to choose his wife and take the oath to be recognized as the future king. Adrien raced down the passageway with hope surging through his chest. If he could just get to the attic he could borrow one of the costumes from that trunk.
