Two days later, we were back in San Francisco, and after having left Sue at her place, a nasty surprise was waiting for us when we arrived home. Allen and Jess had been reported to police by the Stevens, for abduction of a minor.

-I can't believe it...how on earth have they dared to do such a thing?

May was terribly worried thinking of having to go back with our foster parents. And it was something I didn't want to think of, either..though, to be true, it was quite likely she would have to.

-Andy, come with me, we're gonna talk to them. Jess, sweetie, phone Charles and tell him what's going on, maybe he can help us.

I was rather uneasy about seeing again the Stevens, but didn't want to leave Allen on his own...

-Let me handle this, will ya? And don't play their games...they know which are your weakness and will want to take benefit of it.

-Yeah, I know...but won't give them this victory.

-Good guy!-and he smiled-Well, let's go then.

I felt my legs shaking as we walked to my former house. Allen rang the bell, and after a short while, Richard Stevens went to open. He turned suddenly serious when he saw us.

-What the hell are you doing here? I thought we had got rid of you for once and all.

-Richard, you've a made a huge mistake reporting me and Jess. You know that's not how things were...

-No, if someone's wrong here is you. Marjorie is our legal daughter, and as long as she's a minor, she will have to stay with her parents and do whatever we tell her to. And if you don't want to be in trouble, you should tell her to come back, the sooner the better.

-She doesn't want to be back, and she won't! You can't force her to!

-Of course we can, and we will.  And now, you two should leave us alone, before we call the police.

-Richard,  listen!  For once in your life, listen! Think about May, of what she wants...

-She doesn't know what she wants, but...

I could bear no more and I admit it, I screwed it. I punched Richard Stevens on the eye and he fell backwards. He was shocked at first, but recovered quite fast and gave us an evil smile.

-Marjorie, call the police, now! Your..son has just punched me.

-Andy, go home and tell Jess what's going on.

-No, Allen. This is all my fault. I'm not going.

-Go! I can deal with this.

We heard the sirens of the police from afar, and Allen insisted me in going away. Reluctantly, I went into the car and drove away.I hoped things didn't go too bad.

-Andy, what's wrong? And where's Allen?

I told May and Jess the threats our foster father had made, me punching him and well, Allen insisting I should go.  Jess was rather shocked, but reacted quickly.

-Oh God...never would have expected this. May, you can't stay here...Do you think Sue's parents would let her stay for a couple of days?

-Yeah, sure...they do know her quite a lot.

-Right. You should take her there now and then meet me at the precinct...with some luck, Allen won't have to stay there for the night.  Oh...I talked to Charles, he told me not to worry, he would call the Commisioner and tell him the truth. This changes everything,  I guess...maybe we'll need him here. Well, I'm going now. See you in a while, Andy. And May...we'll solve this, don't you worry.

About twenty minutes before Jess left, I was on the phone, talking to Sue and telling her everything, when I heard someone ringing our doorbell. May came from the hall, and she was pale as a paper.

-Police. Open!
