It Happened in a Flash

He is in trouble

"Hey, Captain..." Barry said meekly as he walked into the precinct.

"Allen! You are more than Three hours late! You better have a damn good excuse! Where the hell were you?" Barry had never seen Singh so mad in his life.  His eyes were wide as saucers and his fists were clenched in furry.

"Look, Captain, I'm so sorry. I didn't have my alarm because I fell asleep on the couch. Anyway, I'm here now so what do you have for me?"

"Paperwork, and lots of it. Oh, and, since you got some extra sleep you can run some tests for me in your lab. See, I was gonna have you do it tomorrow but it'd be a waste to not put your extra energy to use!" Singh said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes and sighed in annoyance. Barry could tell that he was in deep this time. He walked forward and grabbed the huge folder of papers Singh handed him. Without saying anything else he just nodded his head and left the office. He left the desks and went up to his lab to work. He flipped through the papers as he walked into the room. 

"Ahem!" Barry looked up, startled by the presence of another person.

"Hey, Joe! I'm so sorry I slept in, it's just that I fell asleep on the couch watching a movie and didn't set my alarm before I passed out. Anyway, it won't happen again, I promise." Barry said, though Joe still looked mad. Barry had been careful not to mention Kara right now, in fear that Joe would jump to conclusions just as Iris had the night before.

"So you're saying a movie is why you slept in?" Joe asked him raising an eyebrow and approaching Barry. 'Uh-oh, this can't be good'. Joe continued to draw closer, his displeasure becoming more and more apparent, "It had nothing to do with Kara sleeping with you!?" He said louder. Well, guess the hope of not jumping to conclusions is out the window.

"Woah! Joe, we didn't sleep together! Who the hell told you that!?" Barry exclaimed in shock. He couldn't believe Joe thought he'd cheat, or whatever that'd be considered at this point.

"Well, when Iris came back to the house in tears I heard the full story, Barry! I'm aware that I don't know your side of this but you still didn't even explain the split to me and now I have to hear about this?! " Joe said trying to calm down but the look on his face remained angry. 

"She didn't explain it either! I tried to talk to her about what was bothering her and she yelled at me. We got into a fight and she said she was leaving for a few nights. She never told me it was over! She needs to leave Kara out of this! She didn't even ask about her! She doesn't get to just make these accusations! I would never cheat and she should really know that by this point!" Barry said exasperatedly. Joe had no right to drag Kara into this mess. 

"Barry! You can't tell me this is her damn falt! She walked into her house to see Kara in only your sweater! She gets to make whatever conclusions she wants! The reason she didn't tell you it was over was that she decided that after last night!" Joe yelled.

"Her house?! She just took her stuff and she left! You to think I didn't realize that a lot of her stuff was gone?! She never talked to me she just left! She made me feel like I wasn't good enough like I screwed it all up and she walked out! Frankly, she has absolutely no right to be saying these things about me and who I am, and she certainly doesn't have the right to bring Kara into it! " Barry exclaimed. He was so upset that Iris was saying all this and he couldn't believe Joe was doing it too, he had figured Joe may be upset but he had thought that he'd at least be given the chance to speak. "You know what Joe, I'll talk to you about this later! Right now I have a hell of a lot of work to do if I want to keep my job! Just please leave Kara out of this mess!" Barry said walking around Joe and sitting in his chair with a sigh as he harshly dropped the papers onto his desk.

"Fine. But you need to stop protecting Kara and fix the mess you made." Joe said with a sigh as he walked out. Barry just rolled his eyes, he couldn't believe that Iris though he'd cheat on her. He couldn't believe all the accusations she threw at him, without even getting the rest of the story.' Why did they have to bring Kara into this? She did nothing wrong. She doesn't deserve this. I swear they better leave her out of this. If either of them says anything to her it will break her. She's got enough to deal with.' He sighed and got to work on the files the captain had given him. He smiled as he thought of Kara sitting at the island that morning. She looked so happy, he loved it. Once he finished the paperwork he went downstairs and went back into the captain's office. He plopped the file onto his desk and stepped back.

"Well thank you, Allen, I'll check it over. In the meantime here; I need you to run this DNA sample and this, well, substance and see what you can find. It's from a homicide case." The captain said handing Barry a plastic bag with a knife and another with a pen and what looked like mud or feces.

"Umm well, Captain actually I was gonna-"

"What Allen? You got something better to do!? You come in three hours late, I think you can run some damn tests!" Singh said angrily.

"Yes, sir." Barry complied quietly. He grabbed the bags and left the office once again. He ignored everyone's stares as he walked out, assuming they had heard him getting yelled at. He went back upstairs and began running the blood sample from the knife. All of the sudden his phone rang. He groaned guessing that it was Iris to yell at him or something. He walked to his desk and picked it up. He smiled in relief when he saw it was Kara. He answered it happily; "Hey Kara! What's up? You ok?"

"Yeah, I just was wondering if you wanted to get lunch. I mean you don't have to if it's a bad time, I can just find something here. I just thought you might be hungry?" Kara said nervously. She kicked herself for being so awkward.

Barry chuckled at her cute ramble "yeah sure, I would love to get lunch. You wanna meet me outside of the precinct? We can grab some food and then I'll come back and finish up here." He suggested.

"I would, but I don't know where the precinct is." She said. She felt bad for interrupting his day. "You know what we don't have to do this. It was a bad idea, I don't want to be a pain. I'll see you when you get home." Kara said as she hung up, she knew if he argued she'd cave and she didn't want him to miss any more work because of her, he was probably in enough hot water as it is.

"Kara wai-" Barry said on the other end before he heard the click of her hanging up. 'Now I know how Cisco felt.' He put down his phone and took the finished DNA sample results. He grabbed a post-it and wrote down 'Went for a lunch break. Will run other test when back.  -Barry' He went downstairs and put both of the things on Singh's desk, grateful that he wasn't there to talk. With that Barry sped out of the building and to his apartment. He unlocked the door and zoomed in. Kara looked at him in shock. She opened her mouth to object but Barry just said: "The only pain was when you promised me food and then bailed." He grinned at her as she laughed in disbelief. She shook her head smiling.

"You never fail to impress me, Bartholomew. " She said grinning brightly at him. "So where do you want to go?" She asked

"How about Big Belly Burger?" He said. She tilted her head.

"Sure, but what is it?" She said.

"You don't have a Big Belly Burger?" He said in astonishment. She shook her head. He laughed and said, "Well you'd be the first earth to not have one."

"Guess I'm special." She said smiling at him her eyes sparkling.

"Yeah, you are." He replied smiling as he kissed her forehead. "Come on let's go." He said smiling. She laughed and followed him out the door.
