“No” I gasp “she can’t be...”

The doctor looks up “her system gave out before we were able to place the new heart in” he shakes his head “I’m terribly sorry Mrs. Lawliet”

Everything starts to hurt. My inner being feels empty, filled with pain and sorrow.

(Flash-Back L’s P.O.V)

I remember on that day after Angel stopped screaming from the pain. I was the first one to meet eyes with Angela.

I remember holding her in my arms taking in the smell of baby power, her little hand flinched my pointer finger.

I smiled “hi Angela” I say through my tears “im your father”

I looked up at Angel who smiled as she fell asleep.

I sat down in a chair holding her.

Watari smiles holding Layla’s hand “she’s going to be smart, loving”

“Just like her mother” I add.

“Just like her Father” he insists.

Layla comes over to me “Daddy can I hold her?” she ask.

I smile at her getting up “okay but you have to sit down”

She does as I say sitting against the back of the chair.

Her feet didn’t even come close to touching the floor.

She places her arms out as I put Angela in them “there you go”

She smiles down at Angela while Watari snaps a picture.

“Alone she sleeps in the shirt of man with my three wishes clutched in her hand. The first that she be spared the pain that comes from a dark and laughing rain” Layla quietly sings to her.

When we brought Angela home she learned how to walk at only 3 months old. She said her first word before she turned one year old.

Her first word was “Rain”

She was at the top of her classes.

Everything. All those precious memories. These are the only things we have left of Angela.
