I woke up the next day when Eliza started moving.  She looked up at me and smiled, but suddenly she got up and sat on her bed, her eyes cold.

“Is something wrong?”  I asked her and she looked down, sighing.  “It’s nothing.”  She lied.  I could see it in her eyes and her shoulders dropped when she said it.

“Eliza, I know you’re lying to me.  Now tell me what’s wrong.”  After I said that she looked angry.

“I don’t have to tell you anything.  You don’t own me.”  She walked into the kitchen thingy, her back turned away from me.

I followed her, “if this is about what I did I just want you to know that I have never forgiven myself.  Ever since you left I’ve been a mess.  I missed you, and I never stopped loving you, and this time I promise I won’t let you get away from me.”

I looked her in the eyes as I said it and she looked shocked, but the shock in her eyes went away as quickly as it came, as her eyes went cold again.

“Who said I would go back to you?  I’ll admit, I missed you too, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to come running back to you.”

Now it was my turn to be shocked.  Emotions started spinning around in my head and I started to freak out.

“I’ve been single since you left because I was waiting on you and you come back and say that you won’t come back to me!?  That’s bullshit!”  I said, my face red with anger.

Her face got red, too, and she said, “You know what’s bullshit?  I trusted you back then and you did the one thing that crossed the line!  And then the next time I see you, you expect me to come running back to you?!  That’s bullshit!”

I realized how much of a jerk I have been.  It’s been almost 4 years and I’m still a fuck up!

She stormed out of the dorm, slamming the door.

I knew she didn’t know her way around so I followed her out.  Almost as soon as we stepped outside it started pouring.  Eliza sat under a tree and just stared at the rain.

If she stays out in this she’s gonna catch a cold…

I walked over and tapped on her shoulder, “you’re gonna catch a cold if you stay out here.”  She looked up and I realized she had been crying, “I don’t care.”  I sighed and picked her up bridal style, “well I do.”

Once we were back in the dorm I set her on her bed and stood in front of her, “Eliza, I am so sorry for being such an ass lately.  As well as back then…I just missed you.”  She stood and said, “It’s ok, but can we just start out as friends?”  I nodded, “of course,”  it feels like old times again, I mean, before we were dating and we started out as friends.

A couple hours later we were going to Starbucks.  I wonder if she still got the same thing she got when we were 14, caramel latte with whip cream on the top.

When we got there I got out first and, being the gentleman, I opened her door for her.  She smiled and got out and we walked in.

As soon as we stepped in guys were staring at her and girls were staring at me.  She asked me if I could get her usual for her so I walked up to the counter and ordered mine and Eliza’s.  When the lady behind the counter gave me my cup her number was written on it and one of the guy server people wrote his number on Eliza’s.

I rolled my eyes and walked back and handed Eliza hers.  She rolled her eyes when she saw the numbers written on her cup.  We decided to head back to the dorm because, well I don’t know, but why not?  When we got back we played truth or dare.
