Chapter 9: Darkness

Eliza~

I called Nash to see if he knew what was going on.

It rang three times before he picked up, “hello?”

“Hey Nash, have you heard from Shawn lately?”

“Uh, no, why?”  I could tell by his voice that I had woken him up, but this was important.

“Apparently Shawn was in our dorm last night…”

“What?!  Are you guys ok?!”  He was awake now.

“I’m fine, I slept through it, but apparently Hayes talked to him and made him leave me…”

“That bastard!  So where is Hayes now?”

I sighed, “I don’t know, he just said he didn’t love me and he never did and then he left.”

“Eliza, you know that’s not true.”

“I know.  Anyway, before he left he was scribbling in a Bible and when he left he said ‘I need Jesus’”

“Did you read what he wrote in the Bible?”

“Yeah, it said that Shawn came and threatened to kill both of us if he didn’t leave me, and that I should expect to see Shawn soon.”

“So you don’t know where Hayes is?”

“Nope, I don’t have a clue.”

“Ok, I’m flying down there as soon as I can, who knows what Shawn is doing to him.”

“Ok, I’m gotta get ready for class, see you soon.”

“Ok see you soon.”

I was about to hang up when he said, “Wait!  Be careful, Eliza, I don’t want you getting hurt.”

“Thanks Nash, you too, bye.”

“Bye.”

I hung up and brushed my hair and went to class in my sweatpants and t-shirt.

Hayes was wearing matching sweat pants when he left…

‘Stop it!  Focus on class right now, you only have one today,’ I told myself.

Hayes~

Once I left Shawn took my phone and anything else I had in my pockets and put me in the back of a black van.

“You know she’s never gonna be with you, right?”  I asked him, it’s true; she would never be with him.

“Yes she will, you’ll see.”  I sighed, “Where are we going?”  He groaned, “Stop asking so many god damn questions!”

I sighed in defeat and wondered what Eliza was doing right now.  She’s probably in class, the only one for today.  I wonder if she’s still wearing her sweat pants, matching the ones I’m wearing now.  I hope she read what I wrote in that Bible.  I know writing in Bibles is bad, but I knew Shawn would probably go back and check to make sure I didn’t somehow tell her what was really going on, and I knew a Bible is so random he would never look there.

I wonder what Eliza will do all day without me. 

Did she call Nash?  Probably.

And if she called him he’ll be flying down, and he’ll call Will and he would come down, too.

That is how our family is, we live in different states, but when one of us is in trouble, we all try to help.

What will mom do?  Mom can’t come because she has to take care of Sky, who is now 9, but I know she’ll be worried sick.

It seemed like we had been driving forever when we finally stopped and Shawn tied my hands up and let me out.

When I got out I saw an abandoned, old, concrete building.  Just looking at it gave me the creeps.  We walked inside and down a set of stairs and through a door into a small basement.  There was a small bed in the room, but nothing else.  Shawn threw me onto the concrete floor of the room and shut and locked the door behind me.

Great, just great.

I sat on the bed and stared into darkness.  There were no lights so the only time there was any light in the room was when the door was opened, so it was pitch black.

When it’s dark and there’s nothing to do, you get bored pretty fast.  So I took a nap, dreaming about Eliza.
