First days of school used to be terrible for me, but it changed two years ago. Sophomore year, I found Tony was in four of my classes. Then last year, he asked me out the first day. Now it's the first day of Senior year, I'm woodwind captain in band, Tony is the captain of the varsity football team, and we're happy.
As I enter the school, hand-in-hand with Tony, we're greeted by choruses of hellos. Since he's the star player, he gets lots of attention, so its only customary. We manage to escape the crowd that has formed and make our way down the hall to the band room. I have band first thing in the morning. I place my bag on the ground in the little nook that has the doors to the auditorium and turn to Tony. He's a step closer, causing me to back up into the wall. His hands come up to rest palm-down on the wall on both sides of my head. The space between us closing and just as our lips are about to touch, someone shouts.
"Yo, is that Tony? Tony!" Carson yells, picking up his pace, practically pulling Em along since he has his arm around her shoulders. She was tripping on her feet and out of breath by the time they reached up.
Tony sighed before placing a gentle kiss on my forehead. He ducked down and grabbed his bag, clapped Carson on the shoulder, and then left without a word. Em shot me a worried look, but I nodded it off as Carson's phone started ringing. He looked scared at the caller ID before going farther down the hall to pick it up.
"Before you ask, it's just the first day of school jitters. He's kind of on edge because after first period, he has his coach." I say, rubbing my temples in frustration, my own stress finally settling in.
"Well, he won't be alone because luckily for him, you have that class too." She returns, trying to lighten my mood. It works a little, the thought that I'll have another class with Tony.
Before I can return, the hall fills with other music students, waiting for the first bell to ring. Phillip shows up at some point, tossing us a weak sigh before sinking to the ground. After a few seconds, his phone pings. When he read whatever the notification is about, a smile bursts on his face. I knew it was from his long-distance girlfriend. Our band director, Mr. Brian, came in five minutes before the bell rang, finally unlocking the band room. I quickly step in with Phillip and Em on both sides of me as we go to set up our chairs. First period is the shortest class of all, which is kind of why I'm sad I have band first thing. It's my favorite class of all time, especially with a tired and grumpy Mr. Austin. When class ends, I have mixed emotions. Sad I'm leaving band, happy I get to see Tony.
"Hey, baby." I say, sliding onto the seat next to Tony at the bench in our Physics class. Tony mumbled something incoherently as I kissed his cheek while he eyed his coach warily. Even though Coach Rhodes was a really fun teacher, you never wanted to mess with him on the field. It's been hard for Tony because Coach Rhodes has become like a second father to him.
"Alright, kiddos. Let's gets this class started! Whose ready for Physics?" Coach asked excitedly once everyone took their seats after the bell rang.
Some girl at the front of the class near the door rose her hand. "Are you excited for the game, Coach?" Her perfect make-up, on fleek nails, and platinum blonde hair told me she was a stuck up bitch. It was her cheer leading jacket that made me recognize her as the cheer co-captain.
"Yes, Blair. So is the whole school." He said, almost through clenched teeth. I would be like that too if I had to stand there and watch her swish her blinding hair back and forth, and listen to her high-pitched voice. It's still a wonder to me how so many guys have screwed her. Either way, he continued on, clearly avoiding looking in her direction. "As seniors, I know most of you already. I see a lot of my football players in here, along with some cheer leaders and band members. How is the band coming along, Angela?"
