"ANGE, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO VISIT?!" Em screeched in my ear the moment she got to the band hall. Since Tony had practice again today right after school, he gave me a ride to school so I could take his truck home, then come back and pick him up.
"Who?" I asked, not really paying attention. When we got back to school yesterday, I tried to get all of this week's homework done during Study Hall, but didn't get to an English Essay so I was working on that. I'm just glad I got Mrs. Umbridge's work done and out of the way.
"DIANA IS COMING!" Em screeches again, and at that, I freeze.
"HOLY-" I jump up to scream but am cut off by Austin walking in.
"Language, Angela."
"Sorry, Austin." I mumble. Once he's out of ear-shot, I continue. "Are you serious?"
Em nods a yes, too excited to speak again. I was afraid if she did, she would scream again. No one needed that this early in the morning. I whip out my phone to text her.
AngSax: Why didn't you tell me you're coming?!
She responds a second later.
Dino: Em wasn't supposed to tell you... I'm gonna kill her. It was supposed to be a surprise!
AngSax: Awe! Well I can't wait to see you! When are you getting here?
Dino: Ship docked last night, so I went home to say hi to my mom. I'm hanging out with Kaycie today, then I'm planning on coming to your practice tonight.
AngSax: Cool. What do you say I treat you to Taco Bell when I get out of school?
Dino: I'm down.
AngSax: Well I go work on an English essay and then I got Jazz Band
I pocket my phone and smile in happiness. Diana was a senior when Em and I entered as freshmen. She was our drum major, and our best friend. Halfway through the year, she got her license so I got rides to school and lunch out of school thanks to her. After high school, she entered the Coast Guard so we didn't get to see much of her. Whenever she was here, we would meet up and eat Taco Bell.
"Why could I hear your screeches all the way from the front door?" Phillip asked as he walked up to us.
Em and I both turn to him with wide eyes and smiles on our faces. At the same time, we screech, "Diana!"
He nods in understanding before leaving us to freak out. The only reason we know Diana is because she was a year under Em's sister Kaycie in high school. So Em knew her by default, and over the years as Em's friend, I'd heard stories. I didn't actually meet her until Em's birthday before high school started. When I went over, Diana was there with Kaycie because the next day she was coming over to have a Star Wars marathon. She ended up staying the night, and so did I. Diana, Em and I ended up staying all night until seven in the morning. Over the next year, we bonded with band and our love of Taco Bell and Dr. Pepper.
"What do I have for last period?" Em asks, staring off into space.
"We have Psychology." I tell her. I remember because the teacher we have for that class we had our freshmen year for AP Human Geography.
"Do you think Mr. Cook would mind if we were absent?" She asked, starting to look through her wallet.
"Why?"
She looks over at me for a split second with a 'isn't it obvious' look before continuing to riffle through her wallet. "So we can skip and get Diana a Dr. Pepper."
"We're going to skip all of last period just to get a drink, and then show up to your house, where your mom is most likely, an hour before school ends?" I ask, because this part is obvious.
