Chapter 6, A Lot Of Food

A/N I went back to the last chapter and changed the ending slightly. Sorry but I relized how I actually wanted it to end so... I also changed some of the chapter titles...

**3 years later. Jessie is currently 18 and working as a cook at one of the higher Alphas pack house. She knows about werewolves, cause how could you not when the decide to conveniently shift in front of her with no respect to her not wanting to see their nasty naked bodies. Anyways, back to the story... **

"The Alphas got guest today so we need double the food. Let's go!"

A collective groan erupted from the staff. Double the food for werewolves meant at the minimum, enough to feed 2 human armies. It was going to be a long day, possibly week if the guest are staying. Stupid werewolves.

Grabbing some meat I start to add seasoning and the rest of the ingredients for hamburger. Mixing it in to the gigantic pot/bowl I quickly pull my hands out. Ew, the feel of the cold, raw meat against my hands is quite possibly the worst feeling ever.

I quickly crack a crap ton of eggs into the bowl before sticking my hands back into the amazing bowl of nastiness to finish mixing them in. *note the sarcasm*

"Hey Jess, the mix ready yet?" Cain asks. Smirking at me, he knows I hate the feeling of the raw meet.

Rolling my eyes I shoot him a quick glare.

"It's all mixed, not shaped..."

"Let's go! Jessica! Cain! Stop the chit chat and move your asses. We've got double the wolves to feed. If the foods not ready on time I'll send you up for them to eat instead. Move!" Bernie screams, practically spitting in our faces. Gross.

Grabbing the bowl I quickly mumble a yes ma'am and move over by the grill, sliding in next to Cain.

Bernie was a wolf on probation or something. Or maybe she's just naturally a sucky person so they stuck her down here with us. No one really knows for sure, everyone has a different story for how she got down here. She rules over us like a kingdom. It's a little pathetic actually. The way she uses her "superiority" against us.

Cain and I work together for hours, every once and a while he would bump me or I him to try and make the job more fun.

Finally the food is made and stacked on around 100ish large plates along with the sides. Bernie yells out the names of those "randomly" picked to serve the food. Unsurprisingly Cain and I are on the list. If she even looks at you wrong at any point during the week, your almost guaranteed to chose.

"Let's go," Cain mumbles under his breath.

Grabbing a plate, we each position ourselves at the exit towards the dining room. Once the wolves sit down we can enter and hopefully exit quickly.

"Go!" Bernie hisses as soon as the last one sits down.

Exiting the entrance way I inhale a deep breath before moving my feet forward.

With steady, strong steps I walk up to one of the further tables and gently place the tray down.

"Hey sweetheart, looking mighty fine today," one of the mutts calls to me. A shiver rolls down my back. I resist the urge to do anything other than give a small nod.

Another chuckles before looking me up and down.

"Eh, she's been better. The girl over there though... Whooo," he whistles.

Turning on my heel I make my way back to the door.

"Aww, you scared her away. I was hoping she'd stick around a little longer," the first mutt pouts. As if.

"Then go get her. It's not like she has a say in any of it," the other one really back.

Shit. There is no way I am staying while they eat, or in their presence any longer than I have to. I pick up my speed a little so it doesn't look suspicious and do my best to get out of there.

"Nah, I'm hungry, chasing after her will have to wait. Maybe she'll be my mate though, I heard she's not of age yet," the first dog shoots back, sounding pleased with himself.

Of age, mate, what?! I have no idea what he means. I understand that wolves have mates and whatnot but humans, nope. We get the free some of choice. Unless...

"You didn't get called back?" Cain interrupts my thoughts. Walking next to me he casually throws his arm over my shoulder. We turn towards the service hallway since we're officially off duty.

"Nope, I thought they would for a moment though, but I left before they could calm me," I let him know what happened.

"They're disgusting. Acting like the females are there for their own entertainment. I heard the Alpha doesn't approve of it though, which could be a good thing," Cain sneers.

I look at him. He's like a brother to me. When I first got here he was one of the few that jumped at the chance to help me figure out what the hell I was supposed to be doing. Ever since then he's been protective over me. Its kinda nice.

"Even if he doesn't approve, it's not like he does anything about it. His sons possibly the worst one. I honestly dread the moment he becomes Alpha, he's an ass," I retort.

Cain kinda growls. Tensing up before relaxing.

"Hey, you wanna spar later tonight? I have off until midnight, then I have to," he removes his arm and does the quotation marks with his fingers in the air, "guard the kitchen."

"Ha! That's the most bogus job that's available," jumping away from him I dramatically gasp. "Oh no, someone got hungry and entered the kitchen. They don't know how to pour themselves a glass of water. We must place a person there to help them get their water."

"True, no one comes in but the maids anyways. I'd be surprised if the weres actually knew where the kitchen was. They always send someone else to get their water for them," Cain says. "Anyways, sparring later?"

"Sure, I'd love to beat your ass tonight," I reply back innocently. We both know that, that is not going to happen. When I got here I could hardly throw a punch correctly, without Cain I'd probably still be doing it wrong. He is still a much better fighter than me but the fights are getting closer each time.

Cain snorts.

"You have 30 minutes to get to the practice area," with that he turns away towards his room.

So, a little time gap and change of scenery but I wanted to move the story faster. Plus all that time is just Jessie getting used to being in a pack house and everything that goes with it.

Thoughts on the transition?
