I freeze on my spot on the branch. My body telling me to climb down and fit myself into his arms. My mind telling me we ran for a reason, to stay up here.
I stare down at him for what seems like forever before his perfect mouth parts to speak to me.
"Are you going to come down love, or do I need to come up," his silky voice sounds familiar as it reaches my ears. I shake off the feeling that I know him from somewhere and continue to stare at him.
My voice locks in my throat as my head and heart fight each other for dominance. I'm frozen in my spot.
"Love, you've got 30 seconds to make a decision, then I'll make it for you," he raises an eyebrow in amusement.
I gulp as my body stays frozen in the tree. My eyes unable to leave his face. I wad mesmerized by the carvature. Every bit of it was perfect.
They found us, I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that they did. We were half frozen, hungry and desprate at this point. I suck in a shaky breath as he takes steady steps towards the trunk of the tree.
"Jess," Ashley breaths out, "Come down,"
She leans into the man and my heart races even more as I look at my mate at the bottom of the tree. He looks at me and smiles. A soft smile that makes my heart pound so loud it'd be impossible for him not to hear it.
"Hmmm, he's so warm," Ashley practically melts into her mate. After days of coldness, his warmth probably felt like a little slice of heaven.
Without any thought, I slowly climb down onto the next branch, my body yearning for any form of warmth. The torn dress not doing anything to help combat the wind.
I look at Ashley falling to pieces before this strange guy that we've been running from just moments before. I shake my head.
The man let's out a low grumbled and he reaches for the branch. Easily swinging his body up and starting to climb.
"What about..." my voice trails off as I look at my mate making quick progress towards where I'm sitting. He'll teach me before too long. Rubbing almost seemed pointless, almost.
"I don't know," Ashley pulls away from the man, the same conflicting going through her head now. Her mind spinning as she thinks about the past few days. All the years that led up to it. As she takes a step away from him a deep growl penetrates the cold air as he pulls her back to him.
I don't want that. I want my brother and parents. I shake my head again and turn to climb back up. Tears are streaming down my face. My heart breaking because of this stranger. Reaching up I grab the branch that held me captive for what seemed like hours and haul myself back up.
As I pull my weakening body over the branch a low growl shakes me to my core.
"Love, I have been very nice. My wolf is not happy right now and very much would like to come out. I would suggest, if you'd like to keep the little control that you have over this situation, you turn your pretty little ass back around and don't make me carry you down this tree. I will and I will have no problem doing it," his voice is dark and dangerous. My body shivers in response to his promise.
At this point I'm shaking. I can't organize my thoughts and my body is so far past the point of numb that I can't feel anything.
I know the right, sane choice would be to turn around, go to him. But everything I've worked for. The chance that Ashley and I took to run, would get flushed down the drain.
I stare at him and his eyes pierce into my soul. Beconing me towards him.
"Love," he growls out the word and I gasp as my body erupts in sparks.
"I....I.." I stutter out as I continue to stare at the most gorgeous man I've ever made eyes on.
"I don't know," I whisper.
His eyes soften and he climbs to the branch below mine. He reaches his arms out and scoops me into them like I was a little child.
My body automatically melts into his warm chest. The sparks increasing where my skin came in contact with his. All I could think about was him and him only.
He takes my arms and wraps them around his neck. My face follows and I press it into his warm shoulder. Then he jumps.
I clutch at his body as we fell several feet down. My eyes squeezing shut right before he lands gracefully on the ground.
Suddenly his warm breath fans my ear. "Not that I'm complaining, but you can let go now. If you want,"
I open my eyes and sluggishly jerk back from him. A soft chuckle following my move.
He looks up at Ashley and her mate and nods.
"Alpha. I think these two ladies need to get out of the cold. Shall we move out?" He speaks formally, like a solder would addressing a General.
"I think it's time," Alpha responds. His voice a guttery, growl. I look at him and see his eyes are a solid gold, his wolf was out.
Scooping up Ashley in the same manner my wolf held me, he starts to walk in the direction that the cabin was in.
She looks at me from in his arms. A mixture of relief, tiredness, and a hint of worry clouded her eyes. I give her a weak smile.
We were both completely clueless as how we were supposed to act. It's hard to fight someone who your body, your heart yearns for.
I look back up at my mate curiosily. Who was he?
