Beep! Beep! Beep!
Sounded my alarm, I tried to turn it off as soon as I registered it but found I couldn't reach so I tried to sit up, except I couldn't... blue and green feathers were on my face. I push them away surprised at the weight behind them and sit up. I almost scream, wrapped around my neck is a diamond-decorated snake 'a basilisk...' my mind whispers and curled up at my feet in a nest of blankets an eagle rests. On the floor from where I pushed it was a peacock, it's feathers spread in an almost annoyed action.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
I quickly turned off the alarm clock which was starting to become annoying. Slowly I turn back to the animals that have taken over my bedroom and a small amount of my bed. The peacock ruffles its feathers and turns to me, "Well that's no way to treat a living being!" the voice was feminine but strong almost condescending, almost as if a noble talking to a simple townsfolk.
A hiss startled me, the scaled rope unwound crawling down my arm "Hush Ventilo, she doesn't know us," the snake whispered the 's' slurred as the snake seemed to speak.
'I don't think I was supposed to hear that...' I thought as I watched a short argument take place before the eagle looked up at them "Gladium leave it, both of you are not helping," the eagle spoke. By this point, I was a bit lost but had taken in my surroundings enough to notice one crucial detail.
"Where is my grandmothers necklace?" I ask with dread colouring my tone as I searched through my quilts in an attempt to find the special piece of silver and gold. Almost instantly I realised that I couldn't find it... 'That was the one physical reminder I was allowed to have about my grandmother' I thought whilst trying to hold back tears. My parents had never approved of her when she was alive and often tried to make me forget her, the necklace however was apparently too valuable to risk losing.
"About that..." trailed off the basilisk apparently called Gladium.
"Your grandmother taught you a story or myth as you like to think, it wasn't the full story though," continued the eagle that had yet to be named.
"I was taught plenty of myths..." I trailed off until I realised one stood out above all the others. "The three legendary weapons, are you telling me that the story is real?" I questioned in shock at my realisation.
"That's right, the story is true and your necklace was a simple way to hide. Your grandmother was not a wielder though, we have not had a wielder in decades," the peacock explained. 'Ventilo' my mind whispered into my ear.
"This makes no sense! I have had the necklace for years and you never appeared until now and why not my grandmother?" I almost broke down in the shock of what's happening to me.
"Normally only one is summoned when the current wearer is sixteen, there is no specified day for this only that if one of us don't appear they cannot wield us..." trailed off the eagle. I looked at them in surprise, they all seemed surprised in one way as if a realisation had only just appeared.
"So why..." started the snake,
"...have we..." continued the peacock
"...all come out?" the eagle finished a frown decorating its features.
'I didn't even know eagles could frown' I thought in surprise at the expression. "The only reason I can think of is if the decision has finally been made, maybe she is the one who can complete us..." trailed off the snake.
"Wait what do you mean complete, your sentient weapons with special abilities what could I 'complete' that hasn't already been done?" I asked in surprise.
"We were originally meant to be able to combine our abilities and weapons to change shape according to the users need, either a fan, a rapier or a bow," explained the eagle.
"However, the option has been locked since we awoke. It was revealed decades ago that a specific person would allow us to unlock this mode and all the abilities it will grant," the explanation was finished by Ventilo.
"Why would I be chosen! I have only learned to wield a bow and all this time it was probably an attempt for my parents to get their hands on the special bow!" I was frustrated at this point.
"That does not matter to the choice, all that matters is your point of view. Generally, if the reason is good enough and we witness it we will give the user their preferred weapon," explained Gladium.
"That! Once my grandmother asked if I could choose one option what would I choose... I said each weapon has both strengths and I would value any but, they would be the one to choose as they are sentient!" I exclaimed in shock. By this point, I was getting dressed and prepared for the day knowing my tutor would be here soon.
"So all of us chose you subconsciously, either way, I believe introductions are in order..." Ventilo trailed off.
"Of course! My name is Mavis Aquila Pavo Sequesta, I'm sixteen years old and tutored constantly to keep my high grades, my parents generally ignore me and I am different from my peers. I dearly miss my grandmother but, am grateful for every story real, myth or legend she has ever told me," I introduced adding some general information as well.
"Very well, I am Ventilo the peacock fan weapon. My fans form the ultimate defense being either two or one shields, these cannot be pierced by normal attacks and can form rocks if used correctly," the peacock introduced clearly. The blue and green shimmered as if it would fade to silver, the colouring normal if not slightly towards a darker side
"I am Gladium the snake rapier weapon. My sword pierces almost anything and can summon the wind to add to the ability to pierce objects," the snake hissed easily. The diamonds decorating him were a navy blue accented by silver blending into a black.
"Finally, I am Arcum the eagle bow. I form arrows of ice for every shot I make, every arrow that hits then spreads ice and can do a couple of other things that you don't quite need to know right now," The eagle finally introduced himself. His feathers light brown blended into darker colours until black with accenting white outlines.
I looked at each of them, each slightly different from their normal species but not enough to mark them as extremely odd. They seemed to defer to the eagle the most but still respect each other as if they have seen everything and no one else could ever understand.
I glanced at the clock - 7:00 am - and almost freaked out. "Oh no! I have fifteen minutes to get ready before my tutor arrives for languages!" I spoke aloud in shock. I rushed around my room to gather everything and then rushed downs stairs hoping that they would take the hint and hide or something. I had five minutes to go when a familiar weight appeared around my neck and I looked down to see the necklace in the same place as normal.
I heard a knock at the door and mentally shook myself to prepare. I opened the door a smile locked onto my face, "Bonjour Madame Juliana, ca va?" I questioned making sure my accent was correct and the statement was clear. It wasn't enough to calm her down, her eyes narrowed watching my almost unnoticeable catch in my breath as I tried to calm my heart from the rush.
"Come let's start the lesson, you have an oral speaking test on Thursday this week, we have two more sessions not including this one to perfect your accents," she said almost as if my actual classes did not teach us any of these things properly.
"Oui madame..." I replied monotonously as I trailed after her into my personal study 'Mainly made to keep me away from my parents during lessons' I thought sadly.
