"baek sooyun. 19 years old. depression, anxiety, slight OCD, suicidal. 805th session." the girl stood up from her seat in the circle to introduce herself once again.
"welcome back, sooyun," the group therapist, seokjin, tells her and nods, gesturing for her to sit back down when she was ready to.
she nods back, completing the action, and takes her seat. sooyun had been going to group therapy for the past two years.
her town's community center held daily group therapy sessions in the center's basement. she had been coming everyday since her psychologist suggested it two years ago.
each session began with people introducing themselves to the others in the group, though it was always the same people. except for today.
a blonde man stood up from his chair.
"min yoongi. 21 years old. depression, social anxiety, OCD, suicidal thoughts. 1st session."
"it's great of you to join us today. there's no need to be nervous around us," seokjin acknowledges.
yoongi tightly smiles in return, bowing and sitting back down.
"well since we have a new member with us," seokjin says, crossing his legs and resting his clipboard on his lap, "let's start with why we want to participate in our meetings."
he never refers to it as "group therapy" because it sounds too negative. he prefers using "meetings" or "gatherings", thought it may be confused or mistaken for some kind of cult.
"sooyun, would you like to start off?" seokjin asks, turning to her. all eyes ten to her, including yoongi's.
she sighs. "why not," she shrugs, standing back up. "i'm here because i'm trying to prove to my psychologists and doctors that i won't get any better."
yoongi's eyebrow lifts at her blunt remark.
"well, we're still going to try and think positive, aren't we, sooyun?" seokjin asks.
"whatever you say," she sighs and slumps back into her seat.
"i'll go next," yoongi volunteers, standing up immediately.
"ah, an active participant," the therapist smiles. "go ahead, mr. min."
"i was originally here to try and bring my life back together," yoongi starts, looking at the therapist.
his eyes avert to sooyun's gaze. she furrows her eyes brows in confusion. he continues:
"but it looks like i'm going to fix someone else's as well."
