The heart gets confused when it's constantly told I love you by the same person who destroys it

Chapter 38: A nightmare dressed as a daydream

Caroline Davis was only twenty-one when she got pregnant. A night of drinking and dancing had turned into too much fun and Cali ended up in the bed of a stranger.

A month of no regrets had changed course after two lines had appeared on the blue and white stick she'd purchased from a drugstore.

She wasn't even done with college and already had a baby on the way. There was no contact with the baby daddy whatsoever and she was clueless to who he even was. The only thing she received from him that night was a name and a couple drinks he bought her, as well as the life growing inside of her.

Caroline was prettified. She didn't know the first thing about being a mother. She could barely take care of her fish that that died after an hour she'd gotten it. Imagine bringing a life into the world and having to raise it.

After she had told her mother the news there was no choice in if she were to keep it or not. Mr and Mrs Davis didn't believe in abortions and was willing to help their daughter raise this child. An innocent child that hasn't taken their first breath shouldn't have to pay for the mistakes of its parents.

Cali had to grow up fast and get prepared to be a parent. That meant being responsible, focus on school, no more partying, no more drinking—no more being a a young adult anymore. Her days of fun had to be cut short for the well being of her baby.

Although, she didn't have to go through this alone. Just a month later she was shopping and had found her self fighting over a shirt with another girl. The girl was with her boyfriend, as Cali assumed. It was the last size available in the design and both girls had eyes on it.

They'd gotten into a huge argument over it that the other girl had started rambling in French while tugging on the clothing item. If it wasn't for her boyfriend who calmed her down who knows if Cali would've been alive.

The very same week, Cali saw her in class wearing the very same shirt. They ignored each other as if they didn't have a cat fight the other day. But fate wanted them to become friends as they were assigned partners for a project.

After five minutes Cali had learnt that her name was Monique and they instantly clicked and had a lot in common. Monique was a year younger but didn't let her age show. She had recently moved from France to the States with her American boyfriend.

The two girls spent most of their time together. They helped each with everything and Monique was prepared to be there for her once the baby was born. They were best friends—sisters to be exact.

Eight months later, Madison Davis was born at a healthy weight of five pounds and eight ounces. She acquired distinctive features from her father, blue eyes and blonde hair that Cali remembered he had. She realised that he wouldn't be around to witness the growth of their child but it was okay. The second Cali laid her eyes on Madison, she loved her from that moment on and would give the love of two parents.

For the first year, Cali had thought about Madison as her blessing in disguise. She brought joy to her and made being a mother the best feeling in the world.

Her best friend helped whenever it was needed. She had even offered to sleep over to help with night shifts. Monique's boyfriend who was now her husband wasn't too keen at the fact that his wife wasn't home for a while but he understood. Nothing would ever come between their friendship and nothing could.

Caroline felt some kind of loneliness whenever she saw the happy couple. Even though the two were still young they were a strong couple who loved each other. She'd see couples walk down the streets hand in hand and wished she could've shared a life with someone.
