Melanie finds out the King is dying and tells Marcus who previously did not know...

"The king is dying?" He looked at me and only then did I realise he had not been told. "My uncle is dying."

Marcus heaved himself out of his chair and began to leave the library.

"Marcus, come back please!" I shouted after him but he left anyway.

I felt bad, I felt terrible. The King had brought Marcus up of course he was going to be upset.

I yawned loudly and decided the best thing I could do was go to bed.

I went upstairs and changed into my night wear and hopped into bed. It felt nice going to bed alone.

I felt my lids close as I drifted out of reality.

When I woke, I saw Alex asleep by my side. He looked trouble, his nose was red and he was frowning in his sleep. I gathered he would not wake for a while.

I decided to go for a walk outside before breakfast so I got dressed and went out to the gardens.

Eventually I ended up near my garden and I saw Ryan the gardener planting roses. I decided to walk over to him.

When he heard me approach he looked up at me.

"Good morning Mrs." He bowed his head respectfully.

"Good morning Ryan." I smiled at him.

I realised how much I could do with a friend right now. Especially if Marcus went into grieving.

"How has your day been going so far?" I asked

He frowned at me obviously confused as to the reason for my friendliness.

"Well, I have just been planting flowers I suppose." He shrugged lightly

"Oh." I could not think of anything else and he seemed uncomfortable so I ended the conversation there.

I went and looked at the flowers he was planting. I bent down and inhaled the sweet fragrance.

"Its called a hedychium." He said from behind me.

I looked at the bright orange flower and smiled.

"It smells lovely."

"Here." He gently snipped a flower off for me with his knife. He slid the stem into my hair.

"Its beautiful." I said admiring the rest of them.

"Very beautiful." He smiled down at my face.

I continued to walk the rest of the garden with Ryan. I smelt flowers and he told me their names. He showed me the plans for the rest of the garden.

Ryan was not boring. Ryan was interesting. He was passionate about something. He had something he cared for.

I heard someone call my name and turned to see Alex staring at me a small distance away.

"Good morning Melanie." He said gently.

His eyes were still puffy and he looked fragile.

"The King wishes to talk to you immediately."
