I looked up to see Ryan gazing back at me.
Through my tear filled eyes I noticed a slight frown play on his child-like face.
“Oh Ryan, is there really any need for you to call me that. It makes me feel old.”
“What would you rather I called you then?” He lowered himself onto the grass next to me.
“Melanie, that is my name after all. Besides, surely we are past the stage of common formalities by now.”
I turned to see a deep red blush form on his cheeks. “You have not told your husband about, well about the kiss.”
“Of course not Ryan, and I shall not. For both our sakes.”
“Thank you ma’am, I mean Melanie. We should not do it again though; I fear the trouble we shall enter into.”
I stroked his cheek gently, “I shall try not to get you into any trouble.”
He smiled down at me and as I let my fingers gently touch his lips I felt him breathe shakily onto my hand.
“But Melanie, you promised no more trouble!”
“I apologise, I just felt so-”
I stopped talking as tears streaked down my face, Ryan grabbed me and pulled me closer to him. His hand caressed my shoulder whilst his sweet breath fell down on my hair.
“I just want someone to care about me.”
“There, there.” He whispered into my hair. “What ever is the matter?”
I found myself confiding in Ryan, telling him everything about Alex and Marcus. He did not judge just listened as I told him of lies, affairs, and romance so horrid I was surprised he did not look at me with complete disgust. At the end I felt relief clear my mind of any doubts or worries.
“I best get back to work, but if ever you need to talk just come and find me you know where I’ll be.”
“Among the flowers and the trees.” I smiled warmly back at him before we both went our separate ways.

When I arrived back in the house I wandered back up the stairs to my room knowing it was the one place Marcus would not come to look for me for. As I entered the room I came face to face with Alex sat on the bed. He turned his head to mine and fear swept over me, he looked angry.
“Where have you been?” His voice was calm, but I could tell from his strained jaw that he was having difficulty keeping it that way.
“I could ask you the same thing Alex.”
“I can go wherever I please, I am not under your command!” His voice began to rise but I pushed away any thoughts of backing down.
“And what am I? Your slave Alex?”
“No, but you are my wife.”
“And you are meant to be my husband.” I felt fresh tears cover my face, causing more to come out of simple frustration.
Crying only made me look weak, at the one moment when I wanted to feel strong. Alex walked over to me, causing me to walk back so I was pressed against the wall. He grabbed me around the waist and pulled me closer to him. I tried to pull away but his grip was too strong. His other hand moved to my head and held it still before he leaned in to kiss me. The anger he had felt turned into pure passion as he held me in his arms. He kissed me with such a force, such a longing that nothing could have stopped me from kissing him back. This was not the Alex I was used to, this was a man I had not yet encountered before and it confused me. His anger showed as he bit on my lower lip, and gripped the flesh near my waist a little too hard. When he carried me to the bed and dropped me I felt the full force of the crash before he clambered on top of me, fury burning in his eyes.
