"Yes, Vincent. Yes, I'll marry you!" She barely got the words out before he shot upward and grabbed her into his tight embrace. They spun around before Vincent rested her feet on the floor gently and captured her lips for a passionate kiss.
She had said yes! Camille was going to marry him!
Vincent was startled out of his sleep, jumping upward with a start. He hissed as his head connected with something hard. "Ah! God damn it, Vincent!" Jacques's voice rang out as he rubbed his forehead. "What the hell is your head made of? Concrete?"
"I could ask you the very same. Why the fuck were you hovering over me like that?" He sat up and peered around the room, taking noted that he was now in the bedroom of his and Jacques's shared penthouse instead of Gabrielle's home. He'd also noticed that he wore nothing but a pair of navy blue sweatpants. His cousin must have come for him at some point during the day and gotten him settled. Lastly, he noticed that it was now night time in the city, meaning he was unconscious the entire day... Gabrielle! Where was she?
"Gabrielle is here, out on the terrace getting some air," Jacques answered his mental question. "She called me this morning, frantic, and told me what happened. I'll save the scolding for later. Right now, you should go provide her comfort." He made his way out of the bedroom and into the study to pour himself a stiff drink. Vincent's ridiculous shenanigans would drive anyone, even a vampire, to drink. "By the way, I should warn you. You said Camille's name while you were asleep, and Gabrielle heard it. She has questions."
Vincent cursed under his breath. Standing up slowly, he heaved a sigh. He rubbed his tired eyes. Why was he so exhausted? He'd gone a while without blood before, but his body had never reacted in this way. Vincent was inexplicably tired, his limbs feeling as heavy as a ton of bricks and his bones aching when he made the slightest movements.
Did it have something to do with Gabrielle? Since he'd found her and drank from her, it seemed like her blood was the only thing that could truly satisfy his need. The hospital blood, while a quick fix he was truly grateful for (he wouldn't let Qusay's efforts go unappreciated), did not make him feel as fulfilled as the first time he'd tasted that of his foretold mate. His Gabrielle...
His bare feet carried him all throughout the modernly decorated penthouse and finally to the patio door. Just as Jacques said, Gabrielle stood there on the balcony. Her back faced the door as she leaned on the railing, looking out over the city. Vincent took in the sight of her, the shape of her curvy silhouette rousing desire, admiration, love, and other emotions deep inside him. Her curly hair blew delicately in the light nighttime breeze. Vincent's eyes scanned over her, admiring how she looked in something as simple as a blue t-shirt and jeans with bare feet exposed to the tile floor of his balcony. He could get used to this.
The sound of the traffic below was a distant echo as Gabrielle's mind wandered over no one specific subject. Her thoughts paused when she heard the door click softly behind her, knowing that Vincent had finally arrived. She was ecstatic that he'd finally woken up after that fright he gave her. He really had to stop putting himself in danger because she swore her heart could not take one more close call.
She sighed blissfully and closed her eyes when she felt Vincent's hard body envelope her. His cool gentle breath floated over her skin as he buried his face in the crook of her neck, and his hands gripped the railing next to hers, protectively encasing her. Instinctively, she leaned into him, pressing her back into his front as one of his hands wrapped possessively around her waist. A groan escaped his throat, his lips brushing against her fluttering pulse and sending shivers down her spine.
