Chapter 8

CHAPTER 8

As we headed out I noticed the woman at the counter was gone. I had either most like stabbed her or she had run away calling the police. I checked the clock on the wall. It was 8:30. Had I really been in there for that long? Doesn't matter. I having bigger things to worry about. For one I was pretty sure Linda and Jack had gotten away and then I also had the problem of Ryan. I ushered Lils into the car, ignoring her complaints.

"What are you doing here?" I snapped at him. I was cradling my dislocated arm.

"Well, I sorta followed you. I'm sorry ok but-"

"But what? You don't think I handle myself? You don't have to protect me." I said a bit more softly. Half of me wanted to slap him and be mad but another half of me knew he just wanted to help and he did.

"Well I can see that but in my defense I didn't know you could do all those kick ass moves."

"Well it doesn't matter now, we have to go." Opened the car door to get in but Ryan caught my wrist on my bad arm. With my adrenalin still pumping I swiveled around to position his arm to break it. I quickly let go. "sorry."

"It's ok, you should probably get that looked at." He inclined his head to my dislocated shoulder.

"I should but I won't." He looked at me confused. I shoved him with my good arm. "Your in medical school you idiot."

"Yeah but you should get professional help."

"All I need you to do is put in back in place."

"But-"

"Just do it, please." Ryan got into position reluctantly.

"This is going to hurt a lot." I took a deep breath and nodded for him to do it. Then there was a sickening pop. I sucked in a sharp breath and bit my lip in pain.

"Told you." I glared at him at I pulled my arm away. "You are going to have to take it easy with that arm till it's fully recovered. I would've listened to him but I was on a tight schedule. I went into the trunk and unzipped a back pack. It was filled with emergency supplies for moments like this. I dug through it till I found what I was looking for. I pulled out a plastic bag of what looked like sunflower seeds. I popped two in my mouth and began to chew.

"Are thoughs... sunflower seeds?"

"Yes." I lied. I opened the door and handed the bag to Lils. She looked tired and disheveled. Her hair was falling out of her already messy bun and her clothes had tears that looked suspiciously like claw marks. I felt the soreness and pain subside from my shoulder and I could feel my cuts closing.

"I think it would be best if I went now."

"I doubt your going home." He looked so pitiful. Like a dog who knew he was in trouble.

"No, I won't." I put my hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry Ryan." I pulled away and got in the car. I drove away before I got second thoughts about him. I saw his figure grow smaller and smaller in the mirror as we drove further away.

An hour or so later Lils finally spoke.

"Why did you leave him?"

"Because I had to and you know that." She sighed and fell back into her chair. The humid night surrounded us in a dark veil. We had made it out of the city and we were now well into the country. Out here the stars shined so brightly that it took all my will power not to park the car and star gaze like we did with dad. I knew Lils wouldn't remember but I did. I remembered laying out on a towel with binoculars and a star map. The night would carry a soft breeze. After we found the consolations we would make up our own. The happy cow and the rose. I smiled at the memory but it didn't last long because Lils began talking again.

"Where are we going?"

"There is a safe house in Pennsylvania that we are supposed to meet up with some others."

"What if they don't come?"

"Then we go looking. This whole idea about the Genii's ruling has got to end." Out of the corner of my eye I saw Lils smile with anticipation. She was ready.

Sorry it's a late update but I was sick and pretty much slept all day Saturday and forgot Sunday. Hope you can forgive me but any way I know it probably wasn't the most interesting chapter but it's going to get good soon once I start bringing in the characters I have in mind. So what do you think about Molly leaving Ryan? Don't worry I've got plans for them. *grins evilly* also please excuse any grammer or spelling or any kind of mistakes because I will go back and correct them. Well I think that's it for now I guess.
