Chapter 11

CHAPTER 11

The howl cut through the air like a knife. It was a howl that screeched and moaned that sent shivers down my spine. My heartbeat quickened as I remembered that howl all those years ago. This time it wouldn't kill anyone. I would make sure of that.

"What the hell was that?" Luke questioned.

"Something you don't want to meet." Ben said before glancing at me. "We need to leave before it's to late."

"What!" I exlaimed. "No we need to stay and fight. This beast needs to die."

"Molly look at us." Ben grabbed me by my shoulders. "We are in no shape to be fighting." I looked around and it was true. I noticed the ugly scratches on Luke and the weariness of Tuarwen and Lils. "We will fight him another day and kill many more but not today." I let my shoulders drop as my anger left me. I knew he was right. It was a death sentence if we stayed.

"Get in the car." I said with fake confidence.

"Where are we going?" Lils asked from the back seat.

"Away from here." With that I put the car in gear and hit the gas.

"Faster!" Ben yelled from the passenger seat.

"I'm going as fast as I can!" I shouted back. We had been driving for a little under thirty minuets and the beast was still right on our tail. I quickly glanced over my shoulder to see the dark shape following close behind. Then to make matters worse my gas light turned on. "Shit." Ben noticed and I could practically see his gears turning in that mess of brown hair. I stared intently at the lonely highway. The dark beast rammed into the car making everyone slam forwarded into their seatbelts. Then the car started to slow. "No no no no." I grumbled frantically. "Luke take Lils and get out of here." Without any augment he Changed into a Hawk and waited for Lils to Change but she didn't. "Lils you have to go now." The car had stopped moving and the beast was banging the sides trying to get in.

"But I don't want to leave-"

"Lils, Change now!" She didn't say anymore. Her human form melted till she had become a Humming Bird. I opened the sunroof and they flew out. A loud bellow sounded from outside.

"Beasty out there must have seen them fly out." Ben said.

"You ready?" I pulled out my dagger and got ready to open the door. Ben pulled out his dagger and gave me a mischievous grin.

"Always."

"Tuarwen stay here." She gave a slight nodded but didn't say anything. Instead she stared at something clutched in her hands. "On three, one. two. three!" We rushed out of the doors ready to fight.... nothing. The beast was gone. There was no sign of him. The only evidence of him being here was the useless banged up car. I looked at Ben quizzically. He just shrugged and started examining the damage done to the car. "Tuarwen it's safe." I tapped on the window. There was no response. I opened the door and gaped in astonishment.

Tuarwen was gone.
