"Any luck finding your dog?" Dad said from the other line. Him and mom are in Vancouver, just an hour away from here. I prefer here. Much better than the big city with all the pollution and the people.
I shook my head, even though dad can't see me.
"Sweety?" Dad said again. I forgot to say no. "No." I said.
Apollo has been missing for a month now. Everyday, I would go to woods after I arrive from school. The white wolves aren't there anymore. I've seen other wolves, but they didn't snarl at me. I thought they were in Apollo's pack, and they know me because of him.
"We'll be there in a few hours. Do you want another dog?"
"No!! Apollo is mine!" I screamed, then I realized I probably made my dad deaf. "Sorry, daddy." I said in a giggle. "All good. Maybe it's mating season for dogs and he's just with his girl dog." Dad said, trying to reassure me.
Somehow, the thought of Apollo being happy with another female saddens me. I wish he'd just come back already. I even don't get responses when I call him from my mind.
Dad and I talked for another 10 minutes until he had to leave so he can drive back here. Mom was sleeping, jetlagged, maybe. I sighed and picked up my runners from the porch. MIght as well have a walk before my parents arrive. Maybe if I'm in luck, I'll finally find him.
I took $5 which was on the counter. There is a little cafe near the park where I'm heading so I'll probably get a capuccino or something. After taking my phone, I got out and started jogging.
I stopped after 5 minutes to breathe. I know; 5 minute jog and already out of breath? Well, I'm not much a sporty girl. And the only sport I do is cheerleading, so sue me. I looked around to see where I am, and I could see the park from my vision. It was only 2 blocks away so I took a deep breath and jogged faster than usual. Due to my idiocy and lack of knowledge of Looking Where You're Going, my body collided with another body. I looked up to see a tall man with broad shoulders. His hair was spiked upwards, like a wave. It was a nice beach blonde.
"Oh my god! I am so sorry," I said, backing away to get a clear view of his face. He didn't look familiar at all. He's probably not from here. Ashendale only has a population of 500-ish and I would know who's from here.
"It was my fault," The man said. His british accent was deep. I knew he wasn't from here!
"You're not from here?" I asked him. I wanted to know more. It was unusual for someone from the UK or something to move here. "No, no. My family lives in a farm about four miles west of town." He explained. He also said he just moved here last week, and today was the only day he could look around Ashendale, so he decided to walk.
"That's amusing." I said, nodding while he explains why he came here. Apparently, his parents made him. "Well, I should continue on my adventure." He said, slowly walking away. "Toodle-doo." He said in a girlish tone, making me laugh. "See ya!" I called back and crossed the road. I was now in the park and I could see kids playing, parents sitting on the bench, observing their children. They waved at me and I waved back. It's a tradition- being polite to the town people.
I went to Ashie Cafe, a small coffee shop right beside the heart of the park. The smell of cookies and doughnuts filled my nose as I take a good whiff when I walked in. "Good Evening, Allie." Terri, the lady who works here, greeted me. I smiled at her and walked towards the counter. There was a group of juniors who go to my school sitting in the corner, eating and talking about something.
The menu was short. It didn't have a lot, but they had really good food and drinks. "Can I please get a medium french vanilla cap?" I said in the most polite expression my voice can do. Terri nodded and punched some buttons on the computer. "That's it?" She smiled, looking down at me. I nodded and handed her $3.00. The drink was $2.50. She gave me my 50 cents as change, which I dropped in the tip jar without any hesitation.
