I slammed my locker shut and took a deep breath. It’s the first day of school this year and I was so nervous. What if someone found out about me and Elias? We had been spending most of the break together since, well, we live together. No one in school but me, Martin, and Sandra knew that Mr. Kenneth was actually Elias Larson, a werewolf and my pet.
“How was New Years with Georgia?” Erica asked me. Right. I told her I spent most of winter break at my Aunty’s house. I lied to my best friend. She was the last person I would want to lie to. But I did. I spent my New Years with my werewolf mate and his werewolf family, getting drunk and sharing legends about their pack and the casters.
“Tons of people were there,” I said, forcing a smile. “And it was pretty fun.”
“That’s good.” Erica nodded, and then we walked to our first class with Mrs. Dubois. Angela was at Orlando with her family and they wouldn’t be back until early February.
“Good morning!” Mrs. Dubois greeted us with her melodic voice. A lot of kids weren’t in school today, and it was really quiet. Our teacher instructed us to open our books to the next chapter we left before.
Cyclops.
The rest of the class went by fast and quiet. I was dreading Biology because Elias was there. And I have to call him by his father’s name, Kenneth Larson. He was in the science lab waiting for me.
I got inside without making eye contact with Elias, but he glanced at me occasionally. When I sat down on my seat, he was staring at me.
Everything okay?
I looked at Elias and he gave me a worried look. I smiled at him and nodded. We already talked about not showing any intimate contact in public.
“Allison Cooper.” Elias’s voice trailed. He gave a sly grin as if he did not just asked me if I was okay. I couldn’t help but smile. He was adorable.
“Mr. Larson.” I said, biting my lip. I had to refrain from smiling too much.
Mr. Kenneth Larson asked me where my partner was. Great. Angela wasn’t here. And she’s my partner.
“On vacation…” I answered and my tone sounded like I asked a question. Elias’s stare was piercing through my soul, and I knew he was doing it on purpose.
“Well you’re in luck,” He said. “We’re just gonna talk today.”
"Good morning Mr. Larson!" A high pitched voice hollered over the room. Everyone became quiet and stared at the girl wearing a mini skirt and tank top. Brittany. I cursed under my breath as Elias greeted her back. I glared at him and he gave me an innocent look.
The bell rang again and it was time to start the class. "So..." Elias said, as if talking to a family member. Usually everyone would keep talking about whatever even when the bell rang, but in this class, every student behaved.
"How was your winter break?" Elias asked everyone. I giggled softly and I caught Elias smirking at e from a distance. When nobody answered his question, he made everyone stand up one by one, starting from the person on the corner by the window.
Me.
"Allison." Elias nodded, gesturing for me to say something. I stood up and looked around. Everyone was watching me.
"My break was alright. I've never spent Christmas without my parents... But I'm alright." I said. It took a lot of guts not to burst out crying, but the thought of being emotional didn't cross my mind at all. Elias was testing me, and I have to stay strong.
"My New Years was great. I was with.." I stopped for a second and eyed Elias. My classmates were staring at me as I talked. "I spent it with my aunt in Dysart."
