I woke up to the sound of pots and pans crashing on the floor, causing me to immediately bolt off the couch and run towards the sound that came from the kitchen.

I leaned over the counter top that was built in the middle of the kitchen as a table to see Lauren on the floor, obviously embarrassed of the commotion she caused.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up!" She said turning red and trying to cover her face with her hands.

"I just wanted to make some breakfast before you left." She said quietly.

That immediately put a smile on my face and made me chuckle.

"It's fine, and you don't have to make me anything. You already let me sleep here." I said putting my hand out for her with a smile.

"Well I'm just being my nice self, and you can't tell me how I should be. I'm making some breakfast." She put a pan in my hand and smiled innocently as she got up herself.

"Okay then." I said as I put the pan on the table.

Wow, I feel rejected. I was just trying to help.

Once she picked up the last pot, she walked to her fridge and took some eggs, milk, and bacon out as I leaned on the table nonchalantly, not having to do anything.

"What, no sausage?" I joked.

"I'm not a very big fan of sausages once I found out how it's made, but you're getting pancakes!" She said happily.

"Okay, I'm just glad I'm actually getting some home cooked food." I said as I took a seat at the table, continuing to watch her work.

She's such a nice person, willing to help a stranger, cooking for the stranger, trusting the stranger.

She has a heart of gold.

Once she cracked an egg on the hot pan, the smell filled my nose with pleasant feelings as if I was home.

"Scrambled or with the yolk?"

"Oh, doesn't matter."

"Okay, I'll do both." She said then continued to make the eggs.

She then got another pan and started to heat it up on the stove.

Wow, next thing you know she'll start jumping rope all while cooking the eggs.

Once the pan was hot enough, she put some strips of bacon that immediately started to sizzle and fill the room with it's delicious scent.

As she carried on, the delicious scents that I haven't smelled in a while, started to fill my mind with joyous memories of my mother.

"Hey mom, posso fare le uova?"

"Yes baby, I trust you, just don't burn yourself."

"Well if you trusted me, you wouldn't need to warn me about burning myself." I laughed cracking an egg into the pan.

"Mhm, well you're only eight, so it's my job to warn you." She laughed.

I got another egg and cracked it in, but dropped the shell in the pan too.

"Oops, I'll get it." I said reaching my hand into the pan to get the shell.

I had it but it slipped because of the yolk so I reached back in but missed and burned my hand.

"Ouch!" I shrieked pulling my hand back.

"Fammi vedere la tua mano." She laughed and blew on my burn.

"Essere andato, essere andato, il dolore è andato."

We would always say this whenever one of us were to get hurt, and it always made us feel better.

"I guess you were right." I said then we both started laughing hysterically.

I'd do anything to hear her laugh again.

The chant we used to say, it never worked on her because she never got better.

Then my stomach grumbled pretty loudly which made me come back to current time.

I haven't eaten in almost a week, so waiting for the food is basically torture.

So I got up and started to help Lauren make breakfast.

"What can I do?" I asked looking down at her.

"Um, you can make the pancake batter." She said as she started to put some eggs on two plates along with some bacon.

Then I started looking around for a bowl to use.

When I finally found it, I decided to ask her where the rest of the stuff was.

"So, you do this often?" I asked putting all the ingredients into the bowl and started to mix.

"Cook? Yes." She said.

"Cook for strangers?" I said looking at her through the corner of my eye.

"No." She said shyly, turning a slight shade of pink.

"Figures." I laughed.

"Just be glad that I am." She snapped back.

"Trust me, I am." I chuckled, continuing to stir.

We continued to make breakfast, not saying another word.

Once we finished, we put it on the plates and sat down.

"Do you want some syrup?" She said getting a bottle out of a cabinet.

"Sure, thanks."

She handed me the bottle after she put some on her pancakes, then I put a lot of syrup on mine.

She just stared at me using a lot of syrup and salt as she quietly ate her food.

She's starting to make me feel like a weirdo.

So I shoved my fork into the eggs and put it in my mouth.

"Oh damn, this is good." I said without chewing and started stuffing my mouth.

She started to giggle then walked to the fridge.

Man this is reminding me of that one scene from Beauty and the Beast when they were eating, and I'm the beast.

She poured two cups of orange juice, one for me and one for her.

"Thanks." I said when I finally swallowed, then I started to chug some juice down.

"When was the last time you ate?" She laughed at me.

"Um, I think last week?" I said as I continued to stuff my face.

"Last week?" She exclaimed.

"Yeah, that's what I just said."

"How are you still alive?"

"First of all, I drink fluids as well so that's good. Two, have you ever seen how long penguins can last?"

"Nevermind." She continued eating.

When I finished, I got up and washed my plate and cup.

"You want some more?"

"No thanks." I smiled.

"Well, take this anyway." She handed me some more bacon.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome." She smiled.

"Well, I'm going to let myself out." I said as I headed for the front door.

"Agustin." She said before I could open the door.

"Yeah?" I turned around.

"Be careful."

"No promises!" I smirked and turned back around to grab the knob.

Right before I could turn the knob, someone knocked.
