Georgia's POV
"Georgia! Georgia, come downstairs please! I need to talk to you!" This wasn't ideal, I was trying to do my maths homework and I really wasn't in the mood for one of my mum's 'deep and meaningful' chats. I finished the maths question I was on then made my way down stairs into the kitchen where my mum was sat on her laptop.
She tapped away at the keyboard, clearly not noticing I was there. Why call me down here if you're not going to speak to me? I coughed quietly, making her aware I was there.
"Oh, darling, I'm sorry, I didn't notice you there," Thanks mum. Don't get me wrong, I love my parents to pieces but they can be so annoying sometimes. They're forever binning me off with expensive gifts, my friends are more like family than they are. Obviously I love my car and expensive jewellery, who wouldn't.
I stood rolling my eyes, my mum's face still glued to her computer screen. I let out a deep sigh, I didn't have time for this. I needed to finish my maths homework then I was going to Cara's house to get ready for a party. It was like a Friday tradition, we always went to each other's houses to get ready for parties. I've got loads of friends but Cara and I have known each other since we were 5. Our parents were close friends so we saw each other regularly. Well that was until my parents started leaving the country nearly every week.
"Mum, I'm not being rude but can you hurry up? I've got to be at Cara's in half an hour," I would normally have been quite off-handish with her but I really didn't have the time for her to go through the whole 'you should be respectful to your father and I' chat.
My mum slid her laptop across the marble work top out of her way so she could actually concentrate on my for a few minutes. I pulled out the stool on the opposite side of the island to my mum and sat down.
"I just thought I'd tell you that your father and I have an important meeting in Perth next week and we'll be gone for 3 days," My mum smiled at me sweetly. Was she being serious? She'd only got back from Brisbane on Wednesday and now she was flying to the other side of the country. I put on a fake smile to throw my mum off the scent that I was unhappy. Honestly, I think she thinks that I enjoy spending all this time alone. "We'll leave you plenty of money and food but please, only invite Cara round, none of those wild animals you had round last time your father went away, it took Marge hours to get that red wine stain out of the cream carpet," My mum sat there in disgust. I did feel bad that Marge, our cleaner, had spent ages getting the stain out of the carpet but I did offer to help.
"Thanks mum," I looked at her happily. For all she knew, this is the best thing that could happen. Well to be fair, most other teenagers would find being left home alone for three days fun but being an only child was the complete opposite of that.
"Any time darling, now you must get back to your homework. We don't want those grades to slip do we?" She grabbed her laptop and pulled it back in front of her, returning to the regular tapping of the keys on the keyboard. I rolled my eyes as I made my way back upstairs. I swear my mum thought I was some kind of machine.
I walked over to my desk and grabbed my phone. I had the normal 'are you going tonight?' text messages that I usually got before parties. I was used to them, people always seemed to base their plans on what I was doing. I quickly replied then text Cara that I would be over in about 15 minutes. It would take me about 5 minutes to finish my homework then about 10 minutes to walk to Cara's house. I didn't see the point in driving to Cara's as that would mean I'd have to go round on Saturday morning to pick up my car and that just seemed like too much effort.
I finished my homework then went to pack my bags ready for tonight. I'd already picked out my outfit: black disco pants and a baggy tee. I didn't over-dress for parties but I had to make a little bit of effort. I picked a pair of black Louboutins out from my closet and popped them in the bag along with my clothes. I walked back into my closet and picked out a handbag to take to Cara's. I grabbed my phone charger and purse off my dresser and threw them into my bag. I knew I wouldn't really need them but it was better being safe than sorry.
