it's Friday night when Grayson decided to play Nerve. it was an up and coming game that everyone was bubbling about, Grayson wasn't going to do it until his brother, Ethan dared that he would last the longest. but really, who would last the longest?
— location: school. i emerged into my literature class after having spent the last few minutes in the library. my classmates followed suite, all laughing between each other. i was that one fellow student who sat in a seat, while everyone else sat on the desk.
i pulled on my phone and began flipping around. i didn't have anyone precisely to text nor did i know what to talk about. even though everyone expects my phone to be blowing up, due to my popularity, it was dry.
it wasn't because i didn't want to give my number out, it was just because i always preferred face-to-face communication. my friends always thought it was stupid for me to like verbal communication instead of through text.
i also enjoyed nature. ethan and i would spend our weekends exploring the woods and jumping off cliffs. an activity we loved doing together was recording our adventures. ethan and i have enough footage to keep a youtube channeling running for a for year — if we post once a week. preferably tuesday.
it wasn't the first time we have thought about creating a youtube channel. ethan had always brought the idea up whenever we'd go on a sick adventure and collect more memories. the reason we haven't started one, always began with the fact we didn't know how to talk to a camera. we were both evenly socially awkward around others.
a loud clang came cracking through the semi-quiet room. a cluster of students jump out of their chairs, frantically looking around. a girl with purple hair buckled over while clutching her chest tightly, a few tears forming in her eyes. a english textbook stood by her left footing.
"what the fuck, michelle?" some girls gasp as they clutch near their heart. the classroom became utterly quiet, a mutter of 'bitch' was heard. a tension in the classroom was felt as everyone became to stir.
the four-way group of girls flushed in embarrassment. each looked at each in fear, for they had no intention of anyone hearing their comment. they each quickly mumbled an apology before stepping out, just as the bell rang.
everyone departed into their own ways, all either going to lunch or a boring class before lunch. a bummer for them but good for me, for i have lunch currently. at the same time my brother, ethan, does as well and his friend maisie. as well as ava.
i have tried convincing ethan that we should sit all together in a circle table, but was shoot down instantly by ethan. i have even tried convincing him to join me into going to the hub, even offered to buy his lunch for a week. but ethan always hesitated, stating he felt nervous about people staring at him wrongfully. i am waiting for the day ethan says 'yes'.
"hey bro!" ethan clapped my back harshly. i flew forward and glared at ethan, who had a smile spread across his face. ethan's long mop of a hair fell onto his face and dangled loosely in front of his eyes.
"what are you smiling about?"
"oh you know, the usual. prom and stuff." ethan shrugged as if it was no big deal. he passed his hand through his hair and ended up messing it back up.
"you always said prom was stupid."
"all that will change tonight." ethan rubbed his hands together, excitement bubbling off of him.
"what makes tonight so different from the others?" i walked with ethan into the library and sat in ethan's regular seating table; near the windows, where he loved staring at nature.
"ya boy might be going to prom." ethan bite his lips to keep himself from smiling so wide. which he failed at because he was so genuinely happy.
"with who?"
"well i told ava to expect something from me tonight.."
"you talked to her?" i clarified.
"well, no. i left a note in her locker." ethan watched i hesitate before nodding. "what? was that stupid?"
"i mean, at least you warned her beforehand."
"yeah..." ethan trailed off, biting his bottom lip again. "can you help me choose an outfit for tomorrow?"
"yeah, anything for my bro."

i sat on my unmade bed and stared at my phone. i contemplated whether changing ethan's prom date was a good idea or not. i had fucked ethan's life once before and was forgiven soon after, but who knew if i were to be forgiven so easily again?
but as always, i gets paid fairly for doing the littlest things to my brother life. last time it was over two thousand in earning and now it's five hundred, an amazing earning. i was so close to getting ten thousand and i wouldn't do anything to prevent that from happening.
so, i opened the curiouscat website and entered maisie's old username, one that she kept from when we were dating. an update picture of her replaced the old one of her and me, smiling into the camera and showing how happy of a couple they were. keyword: were.
i began typing a paragraph before deleting it, realizing i had to sound like ethan. i may look like ethan but we obviously talked and thought differently; ethan had zero experience with chatting up girls while i had three past experiences. i knew more than enough about which words would swoon may.

ethan walked into my room a few hours later, he was in a suit and his hair was sleek back. he stood in front of me and twirled, showing himself completely. he faced back, sheepishly smiling.
"so? what do you think?" ethan opened his suit up and rested his hands on his hips.
"i think you'll have all the ladies at your feet."
ethan almost basically jumped off the walls in pure excitement. all he wanted was to look good enough to have people only be able to say good stuff about him and knowing that tomorrow it'd happen, excited him. that was until he'll realize who he'd have to go with instead of ava.
"wanna catch up on the flash?" i asked, scooting over to the right side of the bed. ethan nodded before slowing and carefully taking off his suit. he folded it on my dresser before proceeding to lay on the left side of the bed and facing the television.
