Chapter Twenty Six

When Dawn awoke the chained up against the wall. The same wall as in the vision on Coruscant. "Help!" Dawn screamed "someone help me!" At that moment Maul creeped out of the darkness of the shadows tossing the holecron in his hand. "Maul!" Dawn called as she saw him "Maul, help me, I think the Dark side locked me up." Maul walked over slowly and stopped just far enough that Dawn couldn't reach him. "I'm sorry Dawn, I can't do that," he replied maliciously.
"But, but we need to get out of here before the Dark side can catch us," Dawn yelled almost fear in her voice.
Maul tossed the holocron between his hands as he spoke in a malicious tone "oh Dawn, I can't believe you are that oblivious." He ignited his red lightsaber so the end was only a few cm's away from Dawn's neck, "I am the Dark side," he sneered.
Dawn was in shock by what she had heard because the thought the Dark side had been defeated years ago. "B-but why?" Dawn stammered.
Maul almost laughed as he deactivated his lightsaber and swung it to his side "why? Because I needed you to open this." He grabbed the solved holocron out his pocket and held it out towards Dawn. "Only a Jedi could open it and now, thanks to you, I can know all the Jedi's secrets," he sneered as he put the holocron away and started to turn away from Dawn and walked back into the shadows. Dawn thought for a moment "if you're done with me why keep me here?" She yelled to Maul. Immediately Maul reacted whipping out his red lightsaber and launching it towards Dawn's face. "Maybe I should just kill you off now child!" He screamed.

"Hey you, Red face, stay away from my sister!" Kai yelled as he jumped off a ledge high above them with Chopper close behind firing his rocket booster. He landed next to Maul and swung the ignited blue lightsaber at him. Maul easily defected all of Kai's swings, then he grabbed him by his throat with the force and threw him onto the floor. Chopper then thought it was his time to react he rolled over quickly and pointed his electroshock prod at Maul. Maul didn't see Chopper as a challenge and made quick and harsh work of putting a slit down Chopper's control panel. "Chopper!" Dawn cried as Chopper's lights went out. On spur of the moment Kai jumped back to his feet and tried to swing as Maul again. This time his swings were much more accurate, but unfortunately this was no match for Maul. He quickly deflect all the swings. Then he took one swing and knocked the lightsaber right out of Kai's hand. Kai was frozen in fear as Maul swung his lightsaber and hit Kai right in the face. Kai screamed in agony as he put his hands to his face. But Maul wasn't done, he then hoisted Kai into the air with the force and threw him against the wall. "Kai! No," Dawn cried as Kai slammed against the floor.
Maul turned back and walked towards Dawn and ignited his lightsaber as he spoke, "I guess it's just you and me now my young apprentice," he snarled wiping his cold hands along Dawn's face, "it ends here."
"Hey you! Get you're hands off my kids!" Hera yelled as she ran in holding a blaster and was closely followed by and Kanan and Ezra. Hera fired a warning shot towards Dawn to get Maul away as she instructed the crew. "Okay Ezra you get the kids, I'll get Chopper and Kanan..."
"I'll get Maul," Kanan yelled firing a blasted as he ran towards Maul.
Ezra ran over towards Dawn, "hold on Dawn," he yelled as he swung his lightsaber and cut the chains holding her. "Thanks, come one let's get Kai!" She yelled to Ezra as the two ran toward Kai. "Kai? Kai!" Dawn yelled as she knelt down beside him. She rolled him onto his back to see a large burn mark across his eyes. Ezra looked a Kai for a moment then announced "he's still breathing," he sighed "come on we need to get him back to the ship." At that moment Ezra picked up Kai and ran after Dawn towards the temples exit.
Hera ran over to Chopper "no no no no no," she muttered as she knelt down beside him to see all his lights turned off. She quickly restarted his control panel. As she did a small light seemed to flicker inside him but I soon died again. "Come on Chopper, come back to me buddy," Hera muttered which was followed by her hitting Chopper on his metal body. All of a sudden the boisterous droid's lights lit up and as per usual Chopper started to object. "Chopper," Hera sighed with relief she turned to him "come on Chop it's time to go." She, followed by Chopper, began to run to the exit of the temple.
Kanan tried to shoot a Maul but he just deflected everyone shot, then he ran over and cut off the end of Kanan's blaster. "Oh no what's the Jedi going to do without his weapon?" Maul mocked as he cornered Kanan. "I don't know," started Kanan "I already have a weapon." At that moment he held out an open hand in the direction of which Kai had been. The lightsaber that lay on the floor suddenly flew towards him and into his hand. He quickly ignited it and used it as a shield to deflect Maul's.
Ezra, Dawn, Kai, Hera and Chopper arrived near the temple's exit with Kanan still fighting Maul in the distance. "Ezra, get the kids back to the ship," Hera instructed to which Ezra followed. She turned to Chopper "and Chopper you go make sure the engine on the Ghost is ready to leave."
"Um-hum," Chopper chirped as he rolled out of the door.
"Come on Kanan were leaving," Hera yelled to Kanan as she started to make her way to the temple's exit.
Maul almost had Kanan to the ground as their lightsaber clashed setting of bright lights. "Looks like your friends are leaving without you Jedi," Maul snarled as he pushed to defeat Kanan.
"Not this time Maul!" Kanan yelled as he pushed back hard against Maul sending him flying backwards into the shadows. Kanan could then feel the temple collapsing quickly around him so he made a quick retreat for the temple's exit to join the rest of the crew.
