Christopher ~Sunday 8am
"Christopher, you have 5 minutes to get down here before we're late for service!!" My father snaps impatiently.
My father wasn't the most patient man, He definitely wasn't patient when it came to Sunday service. Service didn't start til 10, but youth service started at 9:30, where I preached.
Adjusting my Louis Vuitton scarf with my black slacks and blazer and white button up, I looked in the mirror.
"3 minutes!!" Dad shouts once again
"Will you give the boy a chance to put on his socks good lord David!"
"This boy needs to learn timing, He can't be late like this when he takes over the church!'
I was the only child; to my dad's luck I was a boy, which had its ups and downs. They were raising me as any other christian family would, by the bible. My father wants a pastor;someone to replace him when he retires. He wants a grandson that will replace me, My momma didn't agree with him causing her to baby me and anger my father for going against him. She will accept where ever I fit in in life, I'm only 18, she knew I had time.
I came downstairs with my bible case in my hand greeting my smiling momma and my impatiently frowning father. "Finally" My dad groaned. Momma rolled her eyes "Don't mind him!" She said irked by his attitude. "You look very handsome baby" She said giving me a wet motherly kiss on my cheek. As I pretended to enjoy the slobber on the side of my face, my father eyed me, He looked me up and down observing my choice of clothes until he reached my chest, my shirt with 2 un-finished buttons.
"You better cover up all that writing and stuff before we get in the church" He says referring to my tattoos upon my neck and my upper-chest. I did as told and buttoned up the 2 buttons. "Let's go before you're late" He makes his way outside to the car. My mother sighed "Don't pay him no attention , he's been on edge since your first day of senior year is tomorrow"
"It's just school, just like every year" I shrugged. "I know baby, it's your first year at public school . You've been at the Christian academy since you were in Pre-K"
"The Christian school he gave me the option to leave? I'm just making sure we are talking about the same one--" "Christopher, he'll be fine, He just needs to accept our baby is growing up. He'll be just as excited as I am " She says with reassurance. I nodded with a smile. My dad honks the horn startling us. My mom groaned "Lets go before your daddy has a whole farm out here" She grabs her purse and bible off the coffee table. I follow her outside .

"Can I get an amen in the church this morning!" "Amen!"
I sat with the deacons in the very front as momma sat with my grandma and the rest of the mothers of the church behind me. My dad wanted to make sure I was paying extra close attention to his sermon.
"Amen... I'm seeing a lot of new faces in the church this morning, a lot of young faces this morning. You know god don't Judge, we are happy to see you came this morning to hear the word. The word of repent , now to repent one must'a committed a sin,we human god didn't make us perfect" Everyone claps around me. I looked around the sanctuary noticing a lot of people that were my age sitting in the middle seats.
"God died on a cross for our sins and we should respect that, and god laid out these sins, that we shouldn't follow , to open up that gate for us can I get a amen?" "Amen" everyone said after my father. I was continuing to look, Everyone seemed pretty bored with the sermon, rolling their eyes and yawning. It didn't take me long to notice a girl and a woman that looked older than her were arguing in. The girl stood up trying to leave when the woman grabbed her trying to make her calming take a seat but instead the girl yanks away from her and walks out of the sanctuary.
"Could everyone open your bibles, to the book of Joshua" I heard a couple snaps come from the front of me, startled I turn around , my dad eyed me "Pay attention!" he mouthed. I did what was expected of me and opened my bible. I took quick glances at the woman who just sat there shaking her head
--- (Sunday 4pm
After church ,we always go over grandmas for Sunday dinner. Its always the time my dad is occupied talking about his sermon with his pastor brother and the rest of the adults, and I can chill with my cousin August. We're the eldest of my grandmas grand kids, so we get a le-way and what he do.
"So I heard unc finally letting you come to school with me" August said as I proceeded with whopping his behind in 2K. "Actually he's not for it. My momma cool though" I correct him.
"Man he'll be aight, Its just school" He sucked his teeth "What's so bad about school, I mean besides the bad bitches?" I rolled my eyes "He probably just scared I'ma lose everything a private christian school taught me and I won't be ready to take over the church"
August chuckled shaking his head "Here he go with that taking over the church stuff, my pops already know. I'm focusing on my music, a nigga tryna get signed. You need to do something with that voice of yours too." I shrugged "I mean I should, I haven't sung in a while" I say. "Join the school choir, they always recruit at the beginning of the year, They need some singers" I furrowed my eyebrow "So why aren't you in it?"
"Cause I ain't no sissy bitch boy" he playfully said "Oh I'm a bitch boy?" I smacked my lips "I'ma join choir anyway, but I'm playing football this year" As I said that I score a buzzer beater and winning the video game.
"AUGUST CHRISTOPHER!! FOODS READY COME MAKE YALL'S PLATE!!"
"Man whatever, we re matching after dinner" August scoffs mad that I won. he's such a sore loser. I roll my eyes following him downstairs.
