BarkStar's Sorrow || NOT BEING CONTINUED

Chapter Six

We raced across the ThunderClan border. Instead of taking us to the ThunderClan camp like I had expected, she took us to a clearing around the back of the camp. Before we reached the clearing, I could smell the stench of fox coating the area and spead up. I rounded to corner to see ForestPaw, lying limp and barley breathing. MorningFlower was already at her side. I could see blood already staining MorningFlower's fur as she curled herself around her daughter. AshPaw and DapplePaw sat a few tail lengths away, letting the young ThunderClan medicine cat apprentice do her work. The small brown she-cat worked quickly, placing cobwebs and pulps of berries onto ForestPaw's face. That's when I realized it.

The whole right side of ForestPaw's face was mangled and bloody, cobwebs and herbs covering most of it, but the most shocking part, where her eye was supposed to be was now just an empty hole, stuffed with cobwebs to try and stop the bleeding.

BarkPaw felt sick as he looked at the fragile apprentice that lay before him. How could StarClan let this happen to someone so kindhearted, so beautiful. What had done this? Who had done this! BarkPaw new the tears were running down his face and he let them, joining his mother at ForestPaw's side.
'W-will she...' BarkPaw couldn't bring himself to say the last word. His voice was Barley a whisper, only just managing to slip out through his trembling lips.

The small medicine cat apprentice shook her head as she worked. 'I do not know. She's lost a lot of blood. I'm not sure there is much of a chance for her making it' the apprentice lowered her voice, sensing the pain it was causing BarkPaw.
'But I promise I will do everything in my power to try and save her..' The she Cat trailed off and everyone knew that this was only a hope. It would never happen.

'How..'

Everyone turned to look at the white and ginger cat with her muzzle buried in ForestPaw's thick fur.

' How did this happen?'

TorrelStar rested her tail on MorningFlower's shoulder.
'ForestPaw was on a patrol with DustPelt, SalmonTail and RussetEar when they were attacked by a fox. SalmonTail reported that DustPelt stood and watched while the fox attacked ForestPaw. Then SalmonTail ran back to camp to get MushroomPaw and myself as well as some more warriors to drive off the fox. RussetEar was also injured in the fight. DawnTail is treating him as we speak.'

MorningFlower's eyes went clouded and fury spread across her face.

'DustPelt?' She flattered her ears and stood up, fur bristling.

'DustPelt stood and did nothing while ForestPaw was almost killed?' MorningFlower spat with venom in every word.

TorrelStar nodded grimly.

There was slight movement underneath BarkPaw apart from the shallow rise and fall of ForestPaw's chest. BarkPaw's stomach caught in his throat as he looked at the slightly opened eye of the ginger apprentice.

'Mama?'
