Emily's POV
Days passed by and before I knew it Homecoming was just around the corner.
I was currently sitting in Creative writing class, counting down the minutes until the bell rang. Now don't get me wrong, I loved this class but when the teacher starts going on and on about something and not give us work to do, I tend to get bored and zone out just like I had at the moment.
I was once again thinking about how lucky I was that Jack and I were together. We had gone on a couple of more dates over the past week. He was just so cute! Every time he'd come up with a different and romantic idea as to what we'd do on our date. And it was never disappointing. To be honest, I didn't know he had it in him to be all mushy and stuff. I mean yeah he was sweet before as well but now it's thousand times better.
I was brought back to reality by the bell ringing, signaling the end of the period.
I couldn't quite decide which was worse- almost falling asleep in class because I was just so interested in the lecture (please note the sarcasm) or having to deal with organic chemistry.
I'll just choose the latter. It wasn't that bad once I actually put some effort and read the lesson but that happened mostly before tests. That method always got me an A so I couldn't complain.
As I put my hand on the doorknob and was about to turn it, the door was opened and it managed to hit my head, magnifying my already mild headache and causing me to stumble backward.
"Oww... my head." I whined and rubbed the sore spot on my forehead, hoping that there wouldn't be a bump or bruise forming the next day.
"I'm sorry. Are you okay?" I heard a masculine voice ask and I looked up just to be met with the sight of Mike - a guy from my math class.
"Yeah, fine," I grumbled as he helped me back to my feet and handed me the books I had dropped when I fell down.
"Oh hey, you're Emily from math class right?" He asked excitedly and after nodding my head, confirming, he questioned now with all seriousness: "You sure you're okay?"
"Yeah don't sweat it. Everything is fine." I smiled just as the bell rang and he had to go to his next class and I had to go learn about alcohols.
I actually understood most of the things as they were surprisingly quite easy today and the equations weren't that complicated for once.
"So now can someone tell me what the difference between alcohols and phenols is?" Mrs. Beckett asked.
"You can drink alcohols but not phenols!" Jason, the classes clown exclaimed, causing laughter to erupt around the room. However, judging from the pissed off look on the teacher's face I wouldn't say that she found it as funny as we did.
"Mr. Anderson could you please behave. You've been in my class for two years now and not once have you acted properly in class and paid attention to the lesson!" She scolded. Mrs. Beckett was so angry and her face was so red that I expected steam to come out of her ears and her nostrils to flare like a character in a cartoon.
I had to stifle my laughter caused by my own thoughts and raised my hand.
"Yes, Mrs. Jones?"
"The difference is that the alcohols contain a hydroxyl group attached to a carbon chain whereas phenols contain the same group but it is attached to a benzene ring," I answered her previous question and she seemed to have calmed down, probably happy that someone was actually paying attention.
"Very good Emily." She smiled at me and went ahead with the lesson.
When the forty minutes were over I stuffed my books into my backpack and headed for my locker to drop them off there and pick up the ones I'll need for my afternoon classes. I slammed my locker shut and jumped out of my skin due to my idiot that thought it'd be cool to stand behind the locker's door and scare the living daylights out of me.
